Aiming for higher position

Hi there. Good morning. I'm still on my night work shift. There's no chat yet. Maybe customers has no issues for this day because as of the moment, I only assisted 16 customers and less than hours that will be the end of work shift. While waiting for another customer, my supervisor is encouraging us to apply for high position of course to have higher income and higher responsibility. One of his insights, if majority of us will be promoted, there's also a bigger chance that he will promoted also in higher position. His aimed position will be handling teams not only agents but teams. If you're a supervisor, you're handling agents. I'm validating issues if I'm going to apply for a supervisor. To start with this, currently, as an agent, I'm working at home. No travel expenses and I can sleep on the right time outside my work shift. Another benefits, my internet connection billing statement every month is part of my monthly salary. Now, if I'll be promoted as a supervisor, the benefits of the internet allowance will be removed because I'll be reporting on site. Since I'll be reporting on site, I'll be travelling go to site. Based on the distance, I need to allot between 2-3 hours going to the site and another 2-3 hours going back home. So that will be 4-6 hours will be lost in terms of travelling only that in working at home. I'm using that as my rest hours already. Another thing, travel allowance is not included in my salary increase. What do you think?

You have to weigh the pros and cons of the position and decide if the pros outweigh the cons and decide if it's the best fit for you.

@kaylachan Yes, I'm validating the pros and cons and I'm not even aware how much will be the salary increase. @marlina And what's your thoughts, why I should not apply?

I was told once at a job that a higher position meant more responsibility and less money. I told that company I wasn't interested in moving up, then. And then found a better job. In my opinion, you should be putting in applications with other jobs that offer better pay for the same amount of work you're doing now. Then deciding if the other factors in the job are worth going after.

@luisga814 I told you he's a smart young man. And no, I didn't tell him my opinion on you finding a new job. (We did talk about you needing more money to do an upgrade on Kyler's pc. I told Sam that I didn't think you were anticipating getting enough money for that any time soon.)

@DaddyEvil Honestly speaking, I don't know what will be my decision. I'm balancing the pros and cons. I appreciate the way you suggested to me. Yes, that correct, promotion might be additional salary but not enough for the amount of stress made. In regards with the salary upgrade of Kyler, I don't think so if I can do that this year or even next year. I can't even upgrade my own computer. My work station as a customer service representative of an online shopping site for fashion dress and shoes although that's good specs but that's not mine. That's company property in which I can't do anything outside the company usage such as writing books. I'm writing books to my classic PC.

It is entirely up to you, in my opinion. If you are qualified and feel that you should move up the ladder, why not? It is totally up to you if you think you will gain more from it in terms of the perks that come along with it and lose some allowances and time due to reporting on site. I don't fully understand your situation or the benefit to the organization, thus you are the only one who can make that decision.

@luisga814 That is for you to determine if the benefits and salary can work for you or not.

@rsa101 For me I know for sure that I'm qualified. But thinking that the benefits and salary is not worthy.

@rsa101 For now, I think, I will be contended for being an agent for the meantime and not pursuing the higher position.

The supervisor job doesn't sound like a good deal. That's too much travel time and no travel allowance given.

@LindaOHio Yes. I don't know why that's the case. Maybe out company seems to see that my travel distance is not their problem. I need to adjust myself.

Sometimes, those manager positions are just not worth the stress and trouble.

Just do what you want to do, and what makes sense for you and family. Don't let anyone pressure you into anything.

@snowy22315 I wanted to be promoted of course but the waste of time in travelling is one of my concerns. Maybe when all of us will be obliged to report on site and there's no work at home anymore, I can consider the the promotion.

You have to consider the pros and cons before making a big decision like that. Good luck
