Back Pain?

I don't usually have any back pain unless I find myself sitting in a hunched-over position. My daughter, however, has been seeing a chiropractor because she has such ongoing back pain. The chiropractor told her to do squats each day and get a good pair of walking shoes and go for walks. She did and her back is better now.
But, in reading about this pain and why we get it I found some reasons that may be what some folks may be doing.
Do you sleep on an old mattress and bed springs? If you put your mattress on the floor and sleep on it for a couple of nights it may tell you the whole story. If your back is better you need a firmer mattress.
Sleeping on your back may be the best position if you have back pain. You can try putting pillows or rolled towels under your knees to keep the natural curve of your back or, try different pillow heights to see which is more comfortable.
If you like to sleep on your belly it is probably best not to if you have back pain issues. But, if you must try sleeping with a very soft pillow or none at all.
Eating too many treats and not eating the protein, fruits and vegetables and whole grains that help to make strong muscles, bones and soft tissue can cause back issues.
I hope this is of help to those having back issues. I read about it on WebMD. Great site.

I know I probably have bone issues as I never really ate "healthy" all my life....but good to know. about the sleeping ways and such. I can't sleep on my back or stomach because it just is not comfortable...so I sleep on my sides

I deal with backspin mostly due to my verbal palsy. It can't be helped. Pain pills and hot baths help a lot.

My mother-in-law told me she used to have backspins till she bought this ortho shoes. One time she was complaining of such back pain again. She bought a down pillow and then she wakes up without a back pain anymore.

A down pillow did the trick? Great! Sometimes getting the neck in the right position does the trick.
What is 'back spins'?

I can no longer sleep in bed due to back issues. I sleep in a recliner, sitting up.

I was going to do that too. Got a small bed instead. Sometimes I wish I had gone with the recliner. If it helps you that is good.

Great post about back pain and how to deal with it! I have sciatica (nerve pain that comes from your spine at your lower back and curves around to the side of your thigh then goes down your leg), and my doctor said I should sleep on my back in order to alleviate the pain. I always start off sleeping on my back, but some time during the night, while I'm asleep, I end up on my side, because that's how I have always slept, LOL!

Hard to not sleep in positions that are comfortable for you during sleep. We are only human after all.
