Ouch!

Last night, I had a terrible backache and I knew exactly what caused it.
Old age is just one of the factors. But it's more of lack of exercise and improper posture.
Several years ago I had to go to a physiotherapist because I could no longer bend my body as my back was too painful. I couldn't pick up something from the floor at all! I was told it's because of the improper way I have sat on a chair for many many years and my therapist even demonstrated how I had been seating.
I had corrected that but sometimes old habit is just hard to let go.
Before sleeping, I did some few exercises my therapist taught me and wished that when I woke up, the pain would be gone. And so it did.
It's really difficult when you're getting older and you hardly exercise at all. Lesson learned, I must go back to yoga.

@LadyDuck I also have the habit of putting all my weight on half of my bum only. Or half seated. It's terrible.

Yes, sometimes I would unconsciously be in that horrible sitting position and then realized that I shouldn't be doing it. It's a terrible position but it's what I have been comfortable in for so many years. Since I was a kid. And normally I do that when I'm sitting in my office chair or while I'm working for hours and hours.

@toniganzon I am guilty of doing the same. When I first turn on my computer and I see on my desktop chair I am in that bad position.

I'm sorry that's happening to you. I hope exercise corrects the problem for you.
I have backaches all the time. It's caused by muscle spasms... Pretty usually massages the muscles and I feel better for a long time.

I should have listened to my PT. She said I should be doing the exercise she taught me regularly. It specifically targets the lower back.

@toniganzon Yeah, but hindsight is 20/20... You didn't know what would happen if you didn't do the exercises.

I'm having similar problems, although my back problems are from injuries in the recent past. But just like you, if I do my exercises and stretches before bedtime, I usually wake up feeling great in the morning.

I woke up without the pain anymore and I did the exercises my PT taught me. I just have to remember to always exercise and keep my postures right.

dEfinitely! But I tend to forget that as I am so used to that improper sitting position that it's my most comfortable one when I'm working.

I noticed that yoga and stretches help me feel amazing relief from the muscle and arthritic pains.

I had the habit of crossing my legs while sitting. That is a no no.

What you have said about old age and staying limber is so true! I spent most of my life not exercising and, now that I'm getting older, my body is falling apart, LOL! I wish I had spent more time being active and exercising when I was younger, but I'll have to make due with gentle exercising now that I'm 60.

When I was in my youth I was really active. I loved swimming, volleyball. All the outdoor sports. But now I'm into cycling. We'd go for a ride for hours and hours, going out of town about 60kkm. These days I can only do an average of 25kmph. I used to be faster than that. My road bike is well fitted so it's not the reason of my back pain at all. And I haven't ridden for a month now because of the rain.
