A Rider For Cheap

Am I terrible?
Got a 90 year old guy who is selling his house and going into assisted living, and he had this very well maintained riding lawn mower he was selling. We have been thinking about getting one even though I am still not convinced our yard calls for one.
But I have a bad back and the wifey has bad knees.
He only wanted $300 for it, and I think that is a steal. He does not need it anymore and we can make use of it.
The damn thing runs like a champ. Perfect. We cut the front and back with it already and it's almost like a brand new mower. I have to say I am very happy with our purchase and the money we spent for it.
I am sure the thing is worth way more than he wanted. But it was his price. Am I evil for taking him for a ride on a riding mower with an old man on the outs?

If you gave him what he was asking for it, then you can't go wrong. Congrats on the "new" mower.

It was nice of him to let you try it out first before taking the money.

@porwest Can't you still do it? Just maybe anonymously, if he doesn't want to take money from you.

@porwest Sounds about right. So that literally feels like a steal.

On that we cannot disagree. He actually did not want the money uprfront. Aked me to take it and try it out and get back to him. I still have no paid him. He was really concerned about me liking it. I was very happy with it and can't wait to be able to give him his money.

You are ready to give him whatever he wants and so you are not taking him for a ride.

I think it was a fair price. Sounds like you will be cutting your grass much easier from now on.

Of course, you're not evil. But it reminds me of when my dad hired a newly green carded Mexican fellow to do some work for him. The man gave him a price, but my dad told him it was too cheap. He got confused, thinking he meant it was too expensive. He said, no, you're charging too little, and I don't want people to take advantage of you, so he paid him more. Now me, I was like dad, you don't have a lot of money, you should have let it be. My dad looked at me like I was nuts.

No, if it was what he was asking, there's nothing wrong with that. You're now blessed with a nice riding lawn mower.

That's the price he asked for. You didn't cut the price. I can't see you were taking advantage of him.
