These Asian pears are horrible

I had ordered some imported pears on jiomart and they delivered these Asian pears which are hard and sour. I had never seen such pears with a brown skin. They are mostly found in Japan, China and Taiwan. Making mixed fruit juice out of them was manageable but eating them as it is was really difficult to chew as they are sour. I chop them to add to my fruit salad. I have decided never to order the imported pears anymore. I ordered the Indian pears this time which is being delayed may be because of the rains.

Japanese pears and China's Tianjin pears are usually quite good. May be the ones you got are not that fresh.

@Beestring That's nice. The green and red imported ones are very sweet and juice.

@aninditasen The Japanese and China Tianjin pears I eat in Hong Kong are imported. They are very juicy and tasty.

Hmm... I don't buy them very often because they are more expensive than the pears that are grown here but I never got one that tasted sour. Their flesh is harder than our homegrown pears, though.

@anil02 Obviously products home grown need not be kept for long as they get sold fast.

@aninditasen I will surely do the same, buying those pears is wasted money.

We always get the sweet or the somewhat tasteless ones. They smell really good. Pears are also a bit expensive here, so we don't buy them very often.

I have seen them on occassion in the store, but never tried one. Fruits with brown skin don't look that good to me I guess.

I think they are like the brown skinned chikoo which I find tasteless.

They are not supposed to be sour . When they are "good", they are crispy and sweet (not overwhelmingly sweet, but sweet enough). The skin is brown but we never eat that part - my mom always peeled that tough peel off. I really think you got an underripe one. I do have a hard time picking them out at the store . . . I have certainly picked bad ones many times.

Have not tried this kind of pear or maybe because it is not available here. The pears here are like light yellow in color.

The Indian ones and some imported ones too are either green or yellow.
