How do you feel about What’s for dinner posts?

Last night as I was making dinner I pondered… Do you enjoy reading what people are making to help give you ideas of what to cook for your family? I know people ask what’s for dinner often on Facebook for this reason. Do you just comment on those posts because it’s a quick way to respond. They seem to get a lot of attention so I’m curious how others actually feel about them. I didn’t make dinner tonight we had leftovers. Last night I made Hot Italian sausage with peppers and onions, Fettuccine Carbonara, and Sweet Potatoes. On the side was a strawberry applesauce. Photo is unrelated to the post and is a new front door we picked out.

@NjChicaa yep I’m not a good meal planner I don’t know what goes well together. I’m a vegetarian though so I only ate the sweet potato tacos. The rest was for my husband and the boys.

@BarBaraPrz my husband isn’t pleased by my meal making skills but I provide a vegetarian dish a meat dish and if he doesn’t like it he can make it himself. When he cooks he only makes a meat meal and sides. I don’t want to eat just sides.

Posts about food often give me ideas, even if I don´t do my dishes just the same. The pictures also help: sometimes it is just an addition of a veggie that´s hidden in my fridge.

@marguicha I almost never try new recipes without seeing a photo first. Probably a bit like judging a book by its cover.

@shaggin One of the things I like about Coral´s recipes (@thesojourner) are her pictures that include those easy to make and beautiful veggies al dente among the rest of the dish. They add color and are very inexpensive and vitamin ladden

@marguicha I could have added a photo of the sweet potato tacos to this post since I ate them just after creating this post. I should have thought about it but I just looked through photos of what’s on my phone to try to find something to add. The door was the only one.

It doesn’t matter wheats the post is one like half of the time I’ll responded the other half I’m like whatever. A lot do things we can’t have because it’s made with gluten so I usually pay attention to the once that are already gf friendly.

@Shybear88 is your whole family gluten intolerant?
@shaggin (71664)

@ShyBear88 I know some people do it as a diet too. I didn’t realize wheat germ is in so much. I’ve only noticed when I have had to buy it as an ingredient in a recipe.

@shaggin you don’t have to be gluten intolerant to not be able to eat gluten. Great guess but your wrong. No to the question. My 7 year old is very allergic to wheat germ as well as a few other food allergies. So he eat 100% gluten free like he would if he had celiac.

I actually really enjoy these kinds of posts, for the very reason you stated. It can sometimes get some creative juices flowing and the next thing you know I am making something I had not thought of or making something I have made before in a new way. I like reading them as well as sharing them.

I rarely make anything that I have read about here at myLot but I think mostly because they don’t usually contain photos which are what entices me to try new recipes.

@porwest ahh you must be able to imagine the taste of things based on what it contains. Not me. My husband is a creative cook but I have to follow recipes and I can’t tell just by looking at the ingredients if it will be bland like he can.

@shaggin I have made MANY things based on posts I have read here. Since I do not follow recipes anywauy, no pictures needed. Just basic ideas. That's all I need to whip something up.

@divalounger I can’t watch the news it’s too upsetting for me. I tend to slip into a depression and it doesn’t help the people who are going through such awful times by me being depressed. To keep my sanity I stopped watching the news during a flood we had here in 2010 or so.

@DianneN yeah my meal planning is unusual but it’s about all I can do. I try my best I’m just not good at it and feel so rushed for time with the baby I feel I’m lucky I get a meal on the table at all most the time.

@Judyev hmm how come they are hard to comment on? To me they are too easy it’s like no thought has to be put it just writing what was eaten. I read them but I could take them or leave them. I prefer different kinds of posts like what people do on a daily basis.

@shaggin I suppose you can just put down what you had but it seems a bit pointless. I suppose I try to be a bit more creative with my answers but I guess there is no need. Just put down what you had.

@aninditasen I tried juice that had some papaya in it and also baby food years ago that was papaya. I didn’t care much for it. With curry seems an odd combination but I’ve only had curry maybe twice so I could be thinking of the wrong flavor combination. How often do you fast?

@shaggin I don't usually fast these days as my doctor has asked not to. I used to a few years ago without taking a drop of water but now I take fruit juice, some dry fruits and Indian sweets. Cereals and curry with oil is only taken at night.

I don't mind but sometimes it's hard to comment because I have no idea at that time. We have those leftover nights too . . . if you covered all the food groups - then that's a complete meal .

I don't mind food posts. Some of them give me ideas and others are just interesting to me. I like knowing what other people consider "good food". (I don't always agree, but I'm not the one eating it.) Sometimes, a food post is all I can talk about because not much changes here since I left Walmart. *shrug* I never expect anyone to talk to me about what I had. I'll still go read and comment on their discussions, as long as they're interesting to me.

@Daddyevil I don’t mind them but I don’t get excited over them either. If it gives you something to talk about that’s great. It must get kind of sad how things are for you now. You seem friendly so if that’s the case you must miss the in person socialization of working outside the home.

@shaggin Well, I don't yell for Pretty to come to my room so we can talk about the food posts, no... Yeah, I do miss the in-person socializing I used to do and the friends I made over the 14 years I was at Walmart.

I actually like the posts about things to cook for dinner. We all need new ideas and to keep trying things we've never tried before, at least I think we should. I do draw the line at raw fish dishes, but that's just me. Sometimes, it seems we see a lot of posts about fast food. I will try not to get started on how much I detest fast food and what all it does to us, but you get the picture. Yes, I do like homemade food posts!

@Mariecoyle I don’t eat meat but my son and stepson do like fish. I’ve made tuna dishes but nothing else. I know I need to start trying to make new fish recipes for them to eat. I don’t eat fast food often mainly because it costs more then I like to spend and also most don’t have much variety for vegetarians.
