Damnable DVR

We have digital cable and that includes two DVRs. One downstairs and one upstairs. The one downstairs works fine but the one upstairs in my room is a real problem. I like having the DVR because I can record things I want to see and then watch them whenever I want to. This also gives me things to watch in the wee hours when usually nothing is on, even on cable.
The cable company updated the old DVR I had several years ago and I now have the second of the updated, newer version. But, I had a very irritating problem with its recordings which started back a couple of years ago. After a few weeks, it would start to pixelate. It was really bad and I got the DVR exchanged. The new one was working great for quite some time but has started to pause now. Some recordings are great and I have no issues nearly completely through the recording. But others do pause(stop the recording for several seconds) and it happens a lot. It is very irritating to be watching something and have it pause. Then you either wait for it to start playing again or mess with the FF, pause and several others until it worked again. I can change the batteries in the remote and reset the DVR which does help but does not take care of the issue. It just starts up again.
Sure, I could just get it exchanged again, and here is the rub, I have several things recorded and on the DVR that I don't want to lose. Movies like "The Shuttered Room" with Oliver Reed, Carol Lynley, and Gig Young. Great movie but rarely comes on TCM and I can't find it to buy it. It also has Flora Robson in it and she is a hard actress to find her work. So this among a couple of other things I just don't want to give up. Plus Housing has told the cable company that they will do no work on the wiring either indoors or out. I think the wiring is most of the issue and there is nothing I can do about it.

@DianneN ......For what? They can't change wiring that Housing won't update.

@celticeagle That’s a dilemma! I’d call the company and have someone come out no matter what they say.

@LadyDuck ........It says there is no way to transfer DVR content. You might be able to save it to a disk. All this is sketchy and not for sure. Also because of copyright laws and such many cable companies don't let that happen.

My daughter has had lots of trouble as she bought an old house. A lot of it was remodeled but they did not touch the electricity which should have beeen the first thing to do.

Electricity is complicated and expensive. Housing won't spend the money to upgrade the wiring.

@celticeagle I know but if you buy a house of your own, you have to start by that. Decades ago, people only had a few electric gadgets. Now everything needs better wiring.

I used to have a DVR. I used to have taping sprees when HBO, Epix, and Cinemax would be free for a short awhile. When I moved here, I had to turn in my DVR. So I wrote down all the movies I had taped over the past few years. In a couple of weeks I will be finally through with my list.

I do enjoy having my DVR. Just don't want to lose the odd bits and rare movies I have saved on it.

I tried to check Amazon for The Shuttered Room; but my internet is frozen up. I would call your cable provider and have them check your DVR out.

Yes, I have done that enough to know where the problem lies. I don't want to exchange DVRs. It is the old wiring and it does help to reset the DVR. That's about all I can do.

Yeah, that kind of defeats the purpose of having a DVR, doesn't it? Hopefully this will somehow be resolved to your satisfaction. BTW, I remember "The Shuttered Room" from when I was a youngish child. It is actually one of my first memories of being scared, LOL!

It is a scary movie. Wish they played it more on TCM.

It is a shame that bad wiring has been a thorn in your side wanting to see shows on your DVR.

Yes, it is. And a shame that Housing can't go through and redo all of the wirings.
