Damnable DVR

We have digital cable and that includes two DVRs. One downstairs and one upstairs. The one downstairs works fine but the one upstairs in my room is a real problem. I like having the DVR because I can record things I want to see and then watch them whenever I want to. This also gives me things to watch in the wee hours when usually nothing is on, even on cable. The cable company updated the old DVR I had several years ago and I now have the second of the updated, newer version. But, I had a very irritating problem with its recordings which started back a couple of years ago. After a few weeks, it would start to pixelate. It was really bad and I got the DVR exchanged. The new one was working great for quite some time but has started to pause now. Some recordings are great and I have no issues nearly completely through the recording. But others do pause(stop the recording for several seconds) and it happens a lot. It is very irritating to be watching something and have it pause. Then you either wait for it to start playing again or mess with the FF, pause and several others until it worked again. I can change the batteries in the remote and reset the DVR which does help but does not take care of the issue. It just starts up again. Sure, I could just get it exchanged again, and here is the rub, I have several things recorded and on the DVR that I don't want to lose. Movies like "The Shuttered Room" with Oliver Reed, Carol Lynley, and Gig Young. Great movie but rarely comes on TCM and I can't find it to buy it. It also has Flora Robson in it and she is a hard actress to find her work. So this among a couple of other things I just don't want to give up. Plus Housing has told the cable company that they will do no work on the wiring either indoors or out. I think the wiring is most of the issue and there is nothing I can do about it.
