Classic Words - Scrabble In All But Name

I'm not really into gaming, though I do play some free online games and the patience card games that come with my computer. As a Scrabble player I was happy to find a free download game called Classic Words which is Scrabble in all but name. You play against the computer, though you can pay a modest fee to be allowed to play other human players to. You can play the computer on easy settings, but I go for the extremely difficult setting which lives up to its name. I have only beaten the computer three times on its highest setting. It seems to give itself the pick of all the letters left unused while the player has to settle for the seven given letters. The computer also uses some extremely obscure words (though you can use settings to instruct it not to). Words the computer hit me with today included Alu (a mathematical algorithm), Ehem (a kind of legal appeal), Kors (the cross shape where a dagger blade meets the handle grip), Jols (short for jollies), Raxed (stolen), and Taiheaed (have patience in Mauri), though my favourite was Gid, (a tapeworm affecting goats). This isn't just a challenging opponant, it's pretty well impossible but quite good fun trying. The only real problem with the site is that between games you get hit with ads, mostly for other games and services). Arthur Chappell

I also enjoy the patience card games that come with my computer. In my opinion computers cheat, they often win, but we do not get the same good letters that they distribute to themselves.

@LadyDuck I play in friendly games with friends - I know I would lose a fortune if I was a gambler

I haven't played scrabble in years. I do have a Deluxe edition of the game, but the ones I usually play are appeal to my sense of history
