Although Queen Elizabeth was 96 years old, it was still a bit of a shock o hear of her death. She was the longest reigning British monarch—th vast majority of British citizens have known no other monarch— and her son, Charles is now the oldest person in history to ascend the British throne. She became the heir apparent when her uncle married an American and abdicated, and became queen in her twenties. In 1983, she visited the Bay Area. Elizabeth was not the longest reining monarch ;the longest is over 80 years I believe. She made a good speech during the pandemic about everyone being together again eventually. Black tea was her favorite tea.

She did live a very interesting life since she was able to see the world and experience it at a level very different from us. Her life was very unique from us common people and there are many things that she saw and experienced that we have not. I am sure she is now at peace with her husband King in Heaven. She can now finally rest well. I hope the transition of power to the new King will be okay in the coming days.

I think the thought of being with Prince Philip put her at ease.

She was not the longest reigning British monarch, but the longest reigning monarch in the WORLD. She will be missed.

@LadyDuck TRue. Charles would have to set a new world record to do so.

My Mom said that when she was young, she had a scrapbook of Queen Elizabeth.

As a person, Queen Elizabeth won the admiration of people around the world. But the age of the monarchy belongs to the past. Unfortunately, authoritarianism and the rule of the elite remain in the world today.

She did concede to paying taxes after the 1992 fire. It’s amazing that was 30 years ago.

We are a Constitutional Monarchy so the Monarch has no actual power in reality. When a bill passes Parliament it does need royal assent but that's just a formality...no monarch with any sense would go against the will of parliament. Personally I do believe our Monarchy has a place in the modern world and hate the thought of becoming a republic.

Don't forget...the last British Monarch that went against Parliament lost his head

Yeah it was a shock. I would thought she would live forever. (I know that can't happen)
