Funny The Things We Remember

Back in the late 70s 'til early 80s(about ten years), I worked at the telephone company. (Mountain Bell before the divestiture and AT&T took it over)and met some interesting people. There was this one young guy and he had a bit of a body odor and breakouts. He did get better with time, but people didn't really want to set by him for the most part. I was surprised he still worked there after a while.
But, one day he was set down by me. It wasn't very busy at that time and we started up a conversation. He told me he was excited because he had gotten another credit card in the mail. He was collecting them. Had about ten or so.
I remember thinking how odd that was. What if he activates them all and uses them? How in the world could he pay them all each month?
I was just thinking of him today and wondering how he came out on all of those cards. Did he get more? Did he get smart and didn't activate them or use them all?
I wonder.

@RubyHawk .......I don't know. Seems weird to me to want so many. Like he was collecting them or something. I often wonder what became of him.

@celticeagle That would be interesting to know He might buy one item a month with each card but why when he can put it all on one card.

That's an unusual hobby! There were many that charged an annual fee back then so I hope he didn't get many of those type.
I didn't work for Bell but I did work for answering services at the time you were talking about. I remember the old cord boards. Then electronics began to come in and the cord boards were gone. I sure did miss them, as the electronic ones were a lot more work.

I worked for a couple of answering services here locally at that time too. When I worked for Mountain Bell (before AT&T took it over) we had what was called Mecobs. It was partly computerized.

I often wonder about two guys I was friends with in College that I completely lost touch with. I hope they are still alive and doing well.

I have a girlfriend who moved and promised she'd write. I never heard from her again and as you do, I wonder how she is doing.

That's very odd. We have two; and I think that's too many!

He didn't use them. He just collected them. I guess.

It is amazing how we can remember things and people. I think we all do it from time to time.
