Cookies by Any Other Name

Not so very long ago, some items in the UK had different names than their counterparts in the rest of the world. Opal Fruits ware changed to Starburst and Marathon bars become Snickers, both adopting US and European names.
It was advertised as being for our convenience, but we knew it was to make it easier to ship stock around the world as demand required.
Now Oreo seem to be bucking that trend. Oreo cookies in the US, that are known as double ‘stuf’ are called double ‘crème’ here. I am guessing they did this for a reason or are they expecting to rename them later on as part of advertising campaign?
Incidently, when they first started selling Oreo in the UK, they were made in Spain and did not taste as good as the US made cookies. Don’t know where the new ones are made, in Europe I guess, but they taste the same as the US. Maybe they just follow the recipe more closely?

Oreo is a popular brand here too.My daughters love it. The ones that they like are regular oreo cookies and not the double layered thick ones.
Globalization has made such changes very common.

Interesting! I just bought these locally made cookies. Am so glad they're packaging smaller size. These taste like thin shortbread cookies, with crispy taro bits. I like it.

Hmm. I think Ilike the name "opal fruits" better. Yes, I guess universal nomenclature is the "name of the game" for marketing.

I am sure it is all done for marketing purposes, they think it will sell better based on that particular name there. Whether this is fact or fiction, who knows?

I tink it is part of rebranding making the items more affordable... if I am correct.

Changing the names of some items must be a sales gimmick .Oreo cookies aren't up to much and not to my liking.
