Do you enjoy looking at weeds?

My mom got an email from her HOA’s (home owners association) board of managers about neglecting to take care of the bad weed situation in her back yard. They even included pictures. I wonder who complained about the weeds. If she doesn’t take care of it they will hire someone to do it and then bill her. And if she fails to pay them they will take legal action to get the money.
She can only do it next week as she’s away. And she emailed them about it. I hope they will see this email and not take matters into their own hands.
One of the things they said was that while she may enjoy looking at the weeds her neighbors do not. Just because she didn’t deal with it yet doesn’t mean she enjoys looking at the weeds or having them on her property.
Hubby actually did the weeds for her this year but he never sprayed anything so they came back. But even if you spray they still come back. It’s like they are immortal.

Herbicides have various kinds depending on the kinds of weeds.

@lovebuglena They're chemical that can kill several types of grasses. Our farmers are using.

We don't always like looking at weeds, but I am glad we don't live in an HOA either. My husband likes to take his time doing yard work.

Hubby and I and my mom and her friend did the back yard yesterday. Too much had grown there. It's interesting though how the HOA didn't even reply back to her email yet. I wonder if they even saw it.

@lovebuglena I highly doubt they did. It wouldn't be surprised if it's an unmonitored inbox.

@RebeccasFarm My mom and her friend drove home from upstate NY (from their summer cottages) and hubby and I came too to do the back yard. It was so overgrown. The friend's tool used for grass helped, even though we had weeds and not grass. I think we had like seven black garbage bags worth of weeds and stuff. Mom even had a tree with berries growing, those blue/purple ones you can't eat. Of course she never planted that and yet somehow it appeared and grew.

I wonder if the neighbor complained about it. And if he did my mom actually knows the guy.

They sent mom printout of rules regarding landscaping and it says there between April 15 and September 30th I believe everyone has to mow their lawn at least once a week. Are they crazy?

@lovebuglena We had a dry year and I have not mowed once a week. I did in spring, but not during summer.

@LadyDuck I don't think it is necessary to mow once a week. But definitely not a good idea to not do it for months.

The one thing about yards is that they have an impact on the property values of the surrounding homes, and of course a weedy lawn can spill over into someone else's lawn as well. So, if I see neighbors are not taking care of their property, I am bound to say something about it.

We have some weeds in our backyard that come from neighbors. We never said anything to them though.

@lovebuglena It depends on whether or not it is intentional. My neighbors next door are slobs who hardly ever even cut their grass.

One of my brothers got mad because his neighbors complained about some weeds in his yard. He sprayed diesel fuel over the entire yard and told the neighbors they could enjoy looking at dirt from then on.

@lovebuglena Of course not. Diesel fuel poisons the ground so nothing grows there for years. (It's illegal to put fuel on the ground on purpose. If the neighbors figured out what he'd done, they'd have turned him in to the EPA people so he'd get fined!)

We need to spray the weeds again in our front flower bed. It's ALL weeds; and they are taking over the front walk too. The Meals on Wheels people have already complained.

Those chemicals don’t seem to work. Only temporarily.

@lovebuglena Yeah. You have to keep at it. I'm going to have our housekeeper either cut them down or pull them out today.

@LindaOHio We did the back yard yesterday but did not spray anything. No time for that. But at least the weeds and other stuff that was growing is gone.
