The end-of-the-year picnic for our tiny town's Farmer's Market is October 8th. I was sent an invitation and asked to bring a favorite dish if able to (not mandatory.) I'm drawing a blank. They will supply the meat, breads, plates, eating utensils, and drinks. I'm sure others will bring chip and dips (always have way too much of those), so I'm trying to come up with something but nothing where I have to be in the kitchen a long time. I need foods that can stay warm, cold or how needs to be while driving the 20 minutes to the grounds. I know so far there will be hamburgers and hot dogs, macaroni and potato salads along with a huge green salad. One will make a couple pies, another cupcakes and pretty sure I heard another will bake a lot of cookies. I thought about a German apple cake or a spinach dip in a huge bread bowl and have a variety of cheeses and crackers. Do you have any ideas what to take?

Why not a savory pie? You can buy a ready made crust and only prepare the filling, ham and cheese, spinach and feta, mushrooms and ham. Or a quiche with spinach or asparagus and cheddar.

@RebeccasFarm I may put one in the freezer as a backup. It's good fall comfort food so might be a hit.

I love the idea of a spinach dip in a bread bowl. Pumpkin pies with cool whip?

@noni1959 My favorite casserole is sausage browned and cut in 2 inch pieces fried with carrots, potatoes, and onions. Travels well.

I talked to someone today who is making a lot of pumpkin things like pies, muffins, and cupcakes with cream filling.

@noni1959 Same here. I wish I had gotten even a cup of blackberries this year.

@noni1959 I envy you. I mean it. I never got a single blackberry this year. I miss them.

@sallypup They are very invasive around here. People rent or buy goats to eat theirs down. It took a lot of years to get rid of the ones at the creek area but others along the gravel road still grow wild and have to be sprayed and clipped a lot.

I would always take a casserole to things like this. Any kind would be perfect in my opinion.

I have to bone up on my casserole making. It's a good idea. I haven't in a very long time. I'm figuring out what everyone is bringing so hoping I can do something different.

BBQ might be good. I'm not sure how many are going yet so not sure how much of something to make if I decide to. I'll have to get a count and then figure out how many might eat it. Good idea. Thanks.
