One of these days

Sometime my little car is going to quit being so sweet and dependable. After all, it is an old lady- born in 2004. My hubby is itching to get a hybrid. Fine. My current putt putt gets at least 35 miles to the gallon, sometimes toward 40. No complaints there. My current putt putt has A/C and a radio. And a computer under her hood. Otherwise, no technology anywhere. Just me and my instincts. I like that. The new fangled hybrid would have tons of tech stuff to deal with. Stuff to keep me safe, to almost drive for me. BUT tech stuff to me is a giant mud hole. I don't have a smart phone and I like that I don't. I don't do GPS. I do bank on line. It will be me coping with the tech smart car. Good gravy help! I wonder if driving schools have courses on learning how to operate a new fangled car before a human gets into a traffic situation? I can only hope my current car continues on to the point where I am too old to drive. Please.

I love having the GPS in the dashboard. So many times in the past I have had to drive to an unfamiliar area, and had to stop to regroup and make sure I was on the right track. It's very helpful for the most part. I drove the same Jeep for 16+ years. It was dying and had a ton of miles on it...and the transmission was so bad I honestly was expecting it to fall out on the interstate. I loved my Jeep a lot, it was my 4th one. But it's gone to it's reward, and I had to move on. I hope yours lasts as long as it can.

@MarieCoyle Its funny about GPS. A couple of weeks ago I went to a writer's gathering with a friend. She used GPS to find the highway from my house instead of listening to me. We ended up at a little burnt out bridge. I told her again how to go and that time she listened to me instead of just the machine.

@sallypup Well, so far my GPS has led me astray twice, and in all fairness to it, there was massive road construction and it was just so hard to get around all of the blocked areas I could understand it. But common sense should always prevail, along with knowing what direction you are going. It always amuses me when someone doesn't know what direction they are going.

@MarieCoyle I admit to being horrible at giving directions. I get the left turns confused with rights etc.

I hope your car lasts a long time. These new cars are too complicated.

They aren't that difficult. Friend has a new fangled car, and it does alot of things for him, like the lights turn on and off automatically. What I like though is the back up camera.

@snowy22315 I used a back up camera in a rental SUV. It helped a little.

I love my basic flip phone too. Our cars do have a lot of techy stuff; and I don't know what to do with most of it.

That's nice that you will be able to afford such an expensive car with all those extras. Especially with the economy in the state it is in now

It takes time to learn all there is to know on working a new phone. You are not used to a cell phone so this will be tricky getting used to but maybe you won’t have to as much trouble as you think.

If your putt putt hasn't reached 200,000 on the odometer you should be ok for a while.

I'm looking for a car, I'm hoping to find a 4 banger that is in fairly good shape. My Subaru was a '97 and was a clutch drive. I adored the car!! It was great on fuel and had a CD player that I used constantly to play my classical music CD's. I really don't want a new-fangled vehicle that have all kinds of gadgets on it and costs like crazy to repair. I do need to get an automatic as with the way my ankle is going, I doubt that I will be able to drive a clutch like the Subaru was. If you decide to get rid of your car, let me know...Taking the bus everywhere is a royal pain in the fanny!

Technology is moving so quickly, it is often hard to keep up.
