Soup, soup, and more soup.

As you may have noticed, I love soup. And of course, I have a lot of favorites, too. The first cold day and night hit us Thursday, so of course I thought I had to make soup. I made a huge, huge pot of vegetable beef soup (3 gallons!) in my gigantic stockpot I've had for years. It's saved the day many times. My neighbor Dale loves vegetable soup. He lost his wife a few months ago and isn't doing well without her with him. He has lost heart...goes to the cemetery every single day still. So, he got a large container of soup. He eats on it for a couple of days and freezes some for another day or two. I took some to another neighbor down the block who recently had knee surgery. Also took some to my neighbor Donna, who is fighting depression over the loss of her sister. I like to cook, and I like to share, I would share more often but just don't really have extra money. But it's easy to share soup. And it makes a person feel good to know that someone else really enjoyed it and maybe it cheered them a bit. Cooking is good therapy for me when I need to concentrate on something so as not to worry about other things. None of us ever know what the future holds for us. I think it's good to spread a bit of kindness now and then. Not bragging, just saying if you can share something in these tough times, go ahead. You may be surprised.

So generous of you to give your time to your neighbors. I'm sure they love your soup. I lost my 2 neighbors 2 months apart. Very sad.

@MarieCoyle You're wrong there. What you do is a big thing. Time, effort, love. It adds up to BIG.

@sallypup There is that old saying ''it's the little things'' that often mean so much. I know when I came home from the hospital the last time I was in there, friends were so good to me. When I moved the last time (hopefully it is the very last time!) I wouldn't have survived it without the help of friends and family. For the record, I truly do hate moving!

I can't do the big things, but that's ok. Little things matter, too..

You are a thoughtful and kindhearted person Marie to share your soup with your neighbors especially when they seem to be going through some tough times. It has turned to soup season quickly here and I'm thinking of making a pot of lentil soup today. Hope things have calmed down a bit and your son is doing better

@MarieCoyle Your poor son and you too having to deal with all those trips to the ER. Hope the specialist can figure it all out and your son gets better. Soup is good for the soul

I am so hooked on soup, I think I have to have a cup of soup every day, of some kind. Lentil sounds good, I make that often, too. Son not better. Appointment tomorrow with specialist. He fell and broke his nose in 3 places. Can't put a cast on a nose. I had him over here, and he fell in the living room. We were at the ER for hours, the doc there swore his meds were too strong, so he changed them. It does seem better, but we are still going to the specialist.

Yes, indeed! I leave food & toothpaste and toothbrush for homeless at bus stops now and then. Being kind, is very rewarding, makes me feel I'm contributing to society. I too don't have much, so giving is when I can.

That's very nice of you to do. I donate what I am able to do, also. A person never knows when they might be the one who needs a hand up.

You are right about that. A little bit of kindness goes a long way. I love soup too. Being able to eat soup is one thing I like about colder weather.

I think it was. Dale loved it, as usual as vegetable soup is his favorite. One of my other neighbors I shared with brought me some squash from her garden and a tiny bouquet of flowers. Made my day.

I will get the slow cooker out soon. I love making roasts and many soups in that cooker. Almost time. I share with my neighbor and it often times helps me more than them probably. Good for you.
