Hurricane Ian

I am rather worried about my Florida family. They live in St. Petersburg. They live in zone D, and on the very corner--they are literally surrounded by other zones that are under a mandatory evacuation. Somehow, they escaped that. I know they are more than prepared, they have a generator and fuel, plenty of food and water, and a good solid home. They don't have their hurricane shutters yet, but they do have hurricane windows. However, they have two very young sons, ages 5 and 16 months. They assure me they will be ok. But I'm a mom, and mom's do worry. I've lived through hurricanes and it's not fun. If you are in the path of that storm, please take good care.

I hope they are all safe from this storm. We have many members here in Florida but not sure the areas for some.

One resident of Nova Scotia in Canada said that the winds of hurricane Fiona sounded like a freight train - and yes, some do sound like that indeed. However her house withstood the winds. With Ian they are expecting storm surges which do cause a lot of damage, so if your relative lives near to the beach, perhaps evacuation would be best.

@Kandae11 It has currently moved to landfall south of them. It won't be easy or fun, they will still get wind and a ton of rain, but those poor people who will get smacked by it....hurricanes are wicked.

It sounds they are well prepared for any hurricane. I hope the hurricane will not be that strong

I have that same hope as the destruction can be widespread and total.

It looks like we could get a lot of rain from that here in north east Georgia. I pray there is no high winds.

@MarieCoyle It is going more eastern now, as it moves up, so Atlanta may not be hit as hard. We may be more on the edge of it.

Special shutters that are installed on the outside of windows, the shutters can be removed completely if you don't want them up year round. They are pricey...but some people who live in hurricane country have them.
