Another trip to the state park today was enjoyed. The wind was blowing the entire time. But still nice to be outside enjoying the sunshine.
Stopped by to visit Cotton the owl and Buddy the hawk. Cotton will always be a resident at the park and taken care of by the park rangers. I was hoping Buddy, the red tailed hawk, would have been released by now. He has been there at least two years.
I asked a ranger about Buddy. He said they still don't feel comfortable he could survive. He broke his wing after being hit by a car. They are trying to rehabilitate him. I still hope one day he can be released back into the wild.
In the meantime, they are both being well taken care of. They eat very good and have clean and safe homes. I stop by to visit them every chance I get. Many others do the same.
Photo is mine.

That's really lovely. I have owls in my area that hoot at night. Hawks are rare here.

Sorry if I missed anything about Cotton and Buddy in one of your posts. Is this State park nearby your house?
They must be so happy to see you, the familiar kind face every now and then, Carol. :-)

@CarolDM Oh, wow! That's amazing!!!
Yesterday, a brown kite hawk was ripping apart a black bird right in front of our bedroom window, among my Viola ground covers. Hubby was taking a video of it with his zoom camera. Black birds are pests because they dig up soil, pot plants and mulch. They make so much mess! Probably searching for slugs, which I welcome them in my garden doing that. I hate slugs! :-D

@everwonderwhy Oh my goodness. I cannot watch something like that. I don't care for blackbirds either.

No problem. I have been posting about them a few years now. Yes, the park is right down the road from my home. The park rangers will bring in injured wild animals to try and rehabilitated them for release back into the wild. These are the only two they have now and neither have been able to be released unfortunately. Cotton the owl has been there at least 15 years now, maybe longer. She was found as a baby in the snow, injured. Probably fell out of the tree nest. And Buddy the red tail hawk about two years now. He was hit by a car and has an injured wing. Many will visit them. They are well taken care of.

I hope that Cotton would be fit enough to be released soon into the Nature.
Why Buddy has to be a permanent resident there?

It is nice of you to visit. There is a park in RIchmond that has mostly North American animals and birds.. It is so fun to visit.

Red-tailed hawks are my favorite. We have the World Birds of Prey here in Boise. I've visited several times. I love those type of birds. And our zoo here has several eagles that were injured and couldn't survive in the wild. I hope Buddy can be released back into the wild.

Glad you enjoyed your visit to the state park and saw Cotton and Buddy. At least Buddy is being well taken care of even if he can't be released into the wild.
