Racist graffiti at my preschool yesterday!

How could this happen at my preschool, where black, white, Latino and other kids play together, without regard to race, gender, future sexual orientation, etc.? I actually published a scholarly article 20 years ago about racial identity formation in a multicultural environment, the mother-and-child drug rehab where I worked at the time. If you know my real name, you may have seen this article if you've Googled my name, just to make sure I am who I claim to be. Heh. Of course, there was no racist graffiti at my preschool. I am just posting a racy title in hopes of luring readers in, so I can make my Totally Arbitrary MyLot Goal this month. We often use sidewalk chalk at the preschool, and I teach the kids to draw smiley faces and other things. One of the teachers decided to write the children's names down outside, where they spend much of the day playing. When She wrote Keke's name, she replaced the first "e" with an "i." When I saw it, as a half-Jew, I was deeply offended. Or not. I actually laughed out loud in silence. The word, as she spelled it, is a derisive term for Jews, about equal in venom to a white person calling a black person a "n*gger." The person who wrote it is Mexican-American, and has probably never heard the term, "k*ke." It reminded me of when one of my college students, from Nicaragua, called people of color "colored people," a politically incorrect term for people who are not of purely European ancestry. Anyway, I did not mention the offensive/funny word to the person who wrote it. And all I did to "correct" my college student was say, "Ah, so you think people of color..." I love living in California. We really are pretty "diverse" here. It makes for some pretty funny slips of the tongue. Or of sidewalk chalk.

I've just started reading The Tattooist of Auschwitz. It's a younn readers version that I found in the bookshelves at our house-sit. At the last place, I read Schindler's List which I enjoyed too

Remember that line in Porky’s where the guy tried to taunt the Jewish kid by calling him a kite? I wish the Jewish half of you l’shana tova! (I guess that means have a good half a year? )

Thank you! I've had some rough years recently. I'd take a half of a good year.

The Totally Arbitrary MyLot Goal is a painful subject for me. I'm still 40 cents short of my goal ($11,319,031.28). There's no way I'll make it. Unless September has 40 days. Does September have 40 days?

It sounds like an honest mistake. But you could explain it to her so she knows.

Glad to know that you live in a city where there isn't any racists feeling.

Oh there are some racist feelings. I saw a lot of racism in Oakland, when I worked there, toward Asian merchants.

@TheHorse Some amount of differences are there in every country but there shouldn't be any feeling of hatred among different races.

It was surely a mistake as Mexican (as for Italian and French) how you pronounce the e is written i.

You lured us in under false pretenses! I would have brought the chalk error to the attention of the person who wrote it.
