Today I asked Diego what were his plans. He told me that he´d stay with Daniel for some days and then come back here to spend a few more days with me.
He wanted to have a family birthday party in Santiago, but nobody is interested in going to his party. Even Tania, his mother, wants to go straight to Pucon (her house in the south) directly from the airport from Spain.
He told me that as that had not worked, he might see if he could rent a cheap place to have a barbecue with his childhood friends.
Suddenly I was aware that my very own grandson, no matter what his flaws, was homeless.
So I told him that during the pandemia, I invited more people for barbecues at the garage. That´s where I invited Felipe and Negor with Dixie, Tania , Claudia and the rest of the children. We had lots of fun there.
I offered him that and I told him that he would have to help out in many ways. The brat might be a pest, but he is my grandson and I love him. So he´ll stay for some time yet.

At least the last few weeks in Aruba have made you aware of some of his flaws so they won't be such a shock now.

My youngest daughter got married over 30 years ago and I have lived alone for more than 20 years. It is difficult to live with anyone and worse still, with someone I did not raise. That boy has a lot to learn. But I do love him and he loves me. He does his best but Tania has not taught him any social niceties. And I won´t do it. I´m too old for that. But I can make him feel that he can count with me and I can make a couple of good salads for his friends. Things would have been different if my husband was still alive

@marguicha I understand. Before I met Pretty's mom, I lived alone for 5 years and enjoyed myself. After I got divorced from Pretty's mom, I lived alone and loved it. I did miss Pretty, though. Then I got full custody of her and have never lived alone since then.

I agree. I just can´t let him rent a place to have his birthday party with friends as his own family has somehow turned him down.

He will have to do most of the work. I offered a place to do it and at the lest moment I´ll ask him to go and get some potatoes for a good potato salad. I could also make a second salad, but only if he helps.

I think that he is very happy even now. He has changed in these weeks. When I met him, he was absolutly introvert.

I'm sure Diego will appreciate the efforts you're making to help him celebrate his birthday. Our grandchildren are all pests in one way or another but we love them anyway.
