It took about ten days

It took the infectious disease doctor a while to respond to what our doctor wanted. Maybe more than that. Bob's admitting doctor contacted him while Bob was in the hospital. Then our primary doctor had us contact him. When we saw the primary again, he still had not responded.
Evidently he got back to our primary--Doctor B. The nurse from the clinic said Dr. M--the infectious disease Dr. wanted Bob to have a total of 28 days of Rocephin. He just finished 14, the clinic talked to me because I answer the phone, Bob does not. I called Bob and told him what they wanted and that they wanted to do another PICC line. He was not happy.
Evidently Bob talked to Dr. B, through her nurse. She said she did not feel he really had to have the extra two weeks but they would monitor how he is doing.
So. . . no new PICC line, no more antibiotics. At least for now.
Tuesday Dr. A the cardiologist, is performing his test. Bob is not really looking forward to it, but it will tell him more about this infection.
So that is the latest in the saga of Bob.

Thanks for the update. I hope Bob gets a good report from his cardiologist. I posted my update on my husband's visit to his cardiologist today. Please keep us posted.

We liked what we were told about what Doc A. could see. Bob does have fluid around his heart. Basically started about a year ago. They have been watching him for it for five years, though.

@GardenGerty That's what they said to my husband when he was in the hospital; but when he went to his cardiologist, he said there was no fluid around his heart and his heart wasn't enlarged....What the heck?!!!

Doctor A. says he does not see any damage on his valves or pacemaker. We will get the EKG results in November.

Well I hope he hears good news from the Cardiologist and hopefully the infection is getting better and no more medications for awhile. Best of luck!

He is actually doing better now than a year ago, so that is good. There do not seem to be growths on the heart valves or pacemaker.

This test was just an outpatient visit. He was there about four hours. Then we went home.

This was a good appointment, even if it did take a lot out of the day. We will hear more Nov. 2.

It gets to be discouraging for him because he was used to being healthy and active.

Well the one they wanted to give him more of was for the infection that might hurt his heart and Doc. A did not see anything to be concerned about.

The test went well. The labs and prep took a lot longer than the actual procedure.

Bob is my husband. He has had to have over 80 days of very strong antibiotics, mostly IV, through a PICC line into a vein. Too many antibiotics make you prone to another kind of infection he is fighting now. Actually he has two. One infection can go through your bloodstream to your heart and makes growths on the heart valves and on pacemakers, etc.

This is too much for Bob. Isn't it? You're talking about PICC line. What is this?
