Russell achieves a PB (Personal Best)

I think most people know that male dogs like to mark their territory with a sprinkle of urine. They sniff around an object then lift their leg to urinate. A short time later, they’ll probably do the same thing again. Yesterday, Vince took Russell, the kelpie, for a walk and he lifted his leg 31 times. (That’s the kelpie I’m talking about, not Vince. ) Today, Russell achieved a PB (personal best) with 39 pees. By the 39th time, Russell was only managing a drip or two but it was still pretty impressive. The photo is Vince’s, not mine but I have his permission to use it. lol

Thanks for precising that it was the kelpie that lifted the leg 31 times. This dog is so happy to be walked around, he is marking the territory before they close him inside again.

He certainly seems very territorial to do so much marking.

Oh my GAWD. My Rufus is a twin to Russell. No joke. We paid for a DNA test and it says pure Blue Heeler. BUT Rufus is Russell's twin- except that Rufus has a stub tail. Does Russell have a Bentley white mark on his forhead? You want a recent photo of Rufus? I can send you one tomorrow.

@JudyEv I will work on a Rufus photo today. Rufus has tan-orange above the eyes and in his ears.

@sallypup That's the same for Russell and tan on the insides of the legs and belly. It's hard to get him to stand still for a better photo but I'll try.

There is no white on his forehead, just the tan spots above the eyes. A photo of Rufus would be nice. I would never have thought a blue heeler would be this colour. I'm very surprised at that.

@JudyEv I heard that about male dogs. I believe all animals whether they are female or male mark their territory.

I'm sure you're right. Some tomcats spray inside, much to their owner's disgust.

@Hannihar Yes, I wouldn't like that at all. My understanding is that it is hard to teach them differently on they get into that habit.

Sometimes, it seems as if I have to pee 31 or 39 times in a day. Other days are quite dry.

You are too funny. Mine doesn't have to mark his territory, I did that by having a fence around his yard. Roscoe is also neutered so I wonder if he'd do that if I were to take him for a walk.

At our 'real' home, we watch everyone walking their dogs and there is one spot where I guarantee every dog sniffs then lifts its leg. lol

It’s baffling to me how many times they pee on things to mark their territory and how they manage to pee every time. My girl dogs actually pee on things too but they squat of course. Any pee in the yard from each other or another dog running through they immediately pee on.

It's amazing that they can manage so many. The house dog doesn't bother at all but it's a girl.
