Is There a Chance That Halloween Will be Discontinued?

Thousands of people across the internet what to make changes to Halloween. But, thousands also want to just leave it alone. Should it be on the last day of October? If you look at the legend behind Halloween it should be right where it is. After all, it has been celebrated on that day for centuries. Back in 2019 the non-profit organization, The Halloween & Costume Association, tried to change the day we celebrate it to the last in October. They list a lot of reasons and you can even go to change.org to sign a petition. You can go to the site noted below to read more and/or sign the petition. I don't think kids would mind trick or treat on a Saturday. I would though. Of course, I am into the more Wiccan side of things. So what do you think? Should it be discontinued, have the day changed, or just stay as it is? Photo is mine.

My city blocked trick or treating right after Pretty graduated from High School. Something about a kid getting a razor blade in an apple. For a couple of years the local hospital offered to x-ray all the candy kids received but parents found it too much work to take the candy to the hospital to be scanned... I think mainly because kids wouldn't stay out of the candy long enough to get it scanned. The last two years I gave out something at Halloween, I gave out light sticks and mini flashlights. Nobody had to worry about any razor blades or poisons from me.

That's a good idea. We had that happen in Pocatello when I lived there.

@celticeagle It doesn't make sense to me. If people don't like kids, they should just leave their porch light out and the kids won't stop and bug them.

What a sick mind to put a razor blade in an apple for kids.

You would be right. Kids don't care about the date changes as long as they get to "trick or treat". Maybe they should decide and not the adults. BTW, curious. do you consider Wiccan religion or an alternative way of life?

A lot of times kids when Halloween is during a school week are tired the next morning because they have been up late trick or treaters which is why parents wanted moved to the last Saturday of the month. But some schools are doing is giving the kids the next day off so if it does fall during the school week the kids will have the next day to recover this what ifs on Sunday and my kids have no school Monday or Tuesday of November

I wouldn't mind that if it is only for the treaters. The day remains Halloween.

@ShyBear88 ......That's why they have the petition. They have to get enough people signing it. I added the link to that petition because it has a lot of other info on it. Their reasons for wanting to change it, etc.

@celticeagle design a Halloween isn’t a government holiday but a holiday it can’t be moved without people agreeing.

I cannot imagine anyone changing the date of halloween, isn't the date or the entire time change in general of a higher importance to everyone? This makes no sense.

I agree. There a lot of things listed on the site though that are rather alarming. I don't think they are recent though.

Our area works around the football games and stuff for trick or treating. The kids done care so that doesnt matter. For religious purposes you chose the day. That doesnt change at all. Halloween or Samhain will always start on the night of the 31rst.

@celticeagle Interesting how the Wiccan religion can't be discussed as openly as say the Mormans or Witnesses etc.

I think it should stay the way it is. If individual communities want to have Trick or Treating on a different night, then so be it. Leave it alone.
