Time for updates

They had us arrive plenty early for Bob's procedure, and then the doctor ran a little late as well. We were in a Critical Care Unit, it seemed calm, but our nurse said she admitted a total of four people counting Bob, as she prepped him. Image is of him waiting. They had to wire him up to monitor his vitals, and draw lab. When it was close to time he was sedated. Then the technician began spraying. I was confused when she started talking about spraying. She was talking about a numbing spray in Bob's mouth and on his tongue and down his throat. She sprayed every ten minutes or so, for a half hour. The fourth time she sprayed as the doctor gloved up. I do not know if you can see the purple gloves on the end of the bed or not. They were placed there so the doctor could just pick them up and get started. The procedure took about ten minutes. They explained everything. Like the fact that they rolled him to one side so that the tube and ekg camera would kind of fall into the correct position. Afterwards the doctor spoke to me for about two minutes. From the images he says there is no bacterial growth on the heart valves or on the pacemaker. (I did not know that was a possibility). We will get the EKG report from the sound waves they bounced around his heart November 2. The nurse printed us a copy of his labs, his kidney function is looking very good. So good news all around. Bob had not eaten all day, so we went to a nearby Arby's restaurant and had Reuben sandwiches and small Jamocha shakes. A good day.

Wow that is all great news! I’m glad they did the numbing spray. My first husband had a piece of cube steak stuck in his throat and he said the worst was them putting the scope thing down his throat. I was worried your husband was going to have to go through that ordeal too. The sedative and numbing spray sound like a great idea to me!

Yes, it can. That is why if you have certain things done, even dental work, they like to give you antibiotics for it.

I had that spray once and I couldn't breathe. Luckily the sedative kicked in and I had a nice nap.

@GardenGerty I don't think I could stand it if I was still awake. I think I started to panic.

So now he is sick again. Yes, numbing spray is great. We use a milder one for sore throats.

What a relief ! There is no bacterial growth on Bob's heart valves or on the pacemaker. Did he suffer from myocarditis ?

This was done "outpatient" so he went home about an hour later, when the numbing wore off.
