A simple but effective bench

We spent yesterday at Boat Harbour on the south coast of Western Australia. The endurance ride there was cancelled through lack of numbers but some gathered there to ride on the beach and enjoy a social evening around the camp-fire. On the drive there, we stopped for a coffee at the Wool Shed in Williams and I was taken by this bench. It’s very simply made with plough wheels each end and rough planks for the seat and back. It would be quite inexpensive to make as long as you could find the wheels at a reasonable price.

It's too bad it was made with chocks for the wheels. You could have sat on it and had Vince push you around.

@JudyEv Well, he does get to have fun, too.

It would more likely be the reverse (so to speak) - me pushing him around.

Well, I like this one, I am sure it is a lot less expensive that some fancy ones, but it serves the purpose.

Here getting the wheels would make it expensive.

The ride is a long way for most competitors to travel and they didn't get enough entries to make the ride viable.

So far the only place I have seen these kinds of furniture is in the country areas but if I were to try to buy one it would cost a fortune.

I've actually never seen any but then there isn't a huge farming community here although there are a few cattle ranches in New Mexico about 30 miles from here.

@rebelann Just all the farms in the lower half of our big state would have used ploughs and similar implements and many would have had wheels like this.

There would be dozens of these wheels on old farms all across the country.

Luckily it has chocks on the wheels or I could see kids rolling it all round the verandah.

There would be dozens on farms here but getting them off the implements might be a challenge.

It was a four-hour drive but we'd already paid for two nights and couldn't expect a refund. We caught up with a lot of our friends there and only had a 2 1/2 hour drive back to our house-sit so it could have been worse.

It is an odd-looking bench ! It is more a cart than a bench.

I guess it is a bit but the wheels seem to be facing the wrong way for a cart.

It's very simple, isn't it? A couple of wheels, two biggish planks and a bit of ironware to join it all up.

That bench is eye catching because of the wheels attached to it

There were quite a few at the ride site and we enjoyed the socialising so it could have been a lot worse.

Are the wheels just a design or they really work?

The wheels are off an old farm implement so they don't work now.
