Strange terminology

Yesterday we went to a local cinema as a little treat. Haven’t been for quite a while but they had a special offer on so I thought it would make a nice change. They have comfy seats and luxurious milkshakes and it made a nice little outing. The funny thing was afterwards, we went to the toilet before leaving for home, and were rather startled to find that the entire ‘ladies’ had been done out in various shades of pink. All the doors were deep fuchsia pink, there was a sort of counter in a deep pink with tall pink bar-stool type chairs where you could sit to look in mirrors and presumably touch up your make-up or whatever, the counter holding the washbasins was pink, and all the toilets were different shades of pink – one even had flamingos all over the lid and seat! What made me laugh though was this label on the underside of each lid, warning users not to ‘drop the clutter in the toilet’. I presume they mean not to dispose of litter in the toilet, but ‘litter’ and ‘clutter’ mean slightly different things – while ‘litter’ makes one think of sweet wrappers, cigarette butts, crisp packets and the like, ‘clutter’ brings to mind piles of books, broken furniture, old bicycles, piles of clothes – basically anything that might get shoved in the loft or somewhere. I could almost imagine @sharonelton cutting up boxes and catalogues and shoving them into the toilet! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2022.

They feared a visit from Trump family, he is well known to throw papers in the toilets.

I think you would have been startled by the whole pink room as well!

@fleura Something definitely lost in translation there! The gentlemen’s facility in our big Tesco is painted pink and first time I ventured in I noticed a vase of flowers and it smelled really perfumey so I beat a hasty retreat, assuming that I has misread the sign on the door. But no, I was in the gent’s, feeling uncomfortable.

It was only the girls and myself on this outing, my partner was busy playing online games with his friends, so we were curious to know whether the gents' was also decorated similarly, maybe in turquoise or something. Since almost everyone had left by this time I did cautiously peep in but no, it was just regular white toilets and stainless steel. And the smell definitely wasn't of flowers : (

Wow! Who would have expected such a colorful, artsy and educational trip to the restroom? A strange surprise.
