More beautiful foliage! I don’t look for it. I don’t have to. You’ve heard that old saying “spring is busting out all over”? So are the autumn colors. Today I went to Brown Park, which is a city park in one of the “suburbs” of Louisville, Saint Matthews. It’s a gorgeous little park, near one of the hospitals. You’d never know that, though, unless you heard the sirens. In the park you’ll find the family cemetery of James Graham Brown, the man who built the Brown Hotel (where the “hot brown” open-faced sandwich was invented). He is buried at Cave Hill, but many family members are interred in the cemetery in the back of the park. I’ve been there a couple of times, but today the focus was the trees. Oooh, those trees. I was able to get a close-up of the crimson leaves that normally look brown because they’re such a deep color. I also saw one of the darker red trees showing off quite well (the two right-hand photos). On the left there’s a shot of Beargrass Creek with the beauty behind it, as well as a budding bush I saw while walking. I don’t know what it is (I couldn’t have a green thumb if you gave me a bucket of paint! ), but I do know it was stunning, with green, pink, and purple adorning the plant. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow. Depending on if and when it does I may not get to take my walk among the foliage. I’m enjoying every moment that I get to be out there, though, I assure you! Hope you’re enjoying it, too. All photos taken at Brown Park, Saint Matthews, Kentucky.

I was going to go out today and get a picture of the tree across the street with orange leaves for you but it started raining last night and hasn't stopped today. You'll have to wait to see the one tree here showing fall foliage until the rain stops. Those in the upper left are pokeberry plants. We have those in our back yard because Pretty won't mow them down. The birds here are eating the berries and then pooping on my car.

I would make a music joke (“Poke berry Annie, the gator’s got your granny”) but you wouldn’t get it. Thank you for identifying them!!!!

@DaddyEvil — that’s where the song (“Polk Salad Annie”) came from, cooking the plant in the spring.

@FourWalls You're very welcome. Edit to add: In the spring, you can eat the young leaves. You cook them like you would spinach. Mom used to gather them when I was a kid and cook them. You can't eat them after the plant matures, though. They're poisonous then.

Lovely. It's dark here by 7:30 now; and I hate the thought of winter coming...but for the time being we can enjoy the fall colors.

I think our sunsets are before 7 PM now. And this time next month it won’t BE this time next month. I tend to prefer “slow time,” but living near the time zone border is rough. It’s good here, but Nashville is on central time, meaning it’s dark at 4:30 in the winter.

@LindaOHio —we’re right on the line of eastern and central time, so we “luck out” that way. Our earliest sunset in winter is about 5:20.

@FourWalls 4:30 would suck. 5:00 is bad enough.

@FourWalls Yes, right! Those beautiful leaves in my neighborhood are falling fast onto the ground. A good rainstorm will do that Now it's time to round them up with a rake and mower until new ones return in the spring

It was worthwhile walking at Brown Park ,where you feasted your eyes on those colorful leaves. The one on the top left photo is pokeweed.

There are some bushes planted along the retaining wall on the interstate that get red in the fall (spring too). Can’t stop to take a picture but they’re so beautiful.

I wish I saw more fall colors more often. However, we have a lot of evergreen trees. Sure some trees do turn colors. However, most of them lost leaves due to the recent hurricane.
