A herb garden for campers

At the camping ground where we stayed on Saturday night, there was a campers’ herb garden, at the side of the campers’ kitchen. There is a good-sized fridge, trestles, benches and a barbecue in the kitchen plus a wood fire for warmth. The sign on the garden said ‘Plant’, ‘Harvest’, ‘Water’, ‘Weed’. This is another innovation of the new owners but what a great idea. I can recognise parsley and rosemary but that’s about it. I’m sure some of our gardeners will be able to tell me what the other herbs are.

Not familiar with anyone of them. But I am sure I have seen some of the plants there. It is good to have a herb garden where you can use for cooking or medicinal purpose. I think that would be handy whenever you have some illness and you can use some of them to relieve your symptoms.

@JudyEv Yes we have our own version of that. I am also not familiar with them too. I only know them when someone introduce it to me and tell me what is it used for.

@rsa101 That's about me too. lol I do know about parsley and sometimes use it. Vince mostly uses dried herbs in his cooking.

That's a nice touch for a campground. I am friends with a couple who do Work Camping. They travel in their RV and work harvests, or in tourist places, and often are in the same spot for a month or two. They seem to enjoy it. They worked at a tourist harbor in Alaska, a sugar beet harvest, vegetable harvests all over, avocado farms, all kinds of stuff. They said they would do it for a few years and then retire for good.

I would have loved to have done this but we're a bit too old now. We have had friends who have done this.

@JudyEv A lot of work to work crop harvests when you are a senior citizen. I think the tourist places might be easier work.

Quite an interesting concept! I think one might visit such a Herb Garden just to enjoy it even if one is not traveling that much. Did this came up pretty recently?

Maybe when the new owners took over they established the garden. Some of our towns have community gardens where people can have a little patch of land and grow what they like.

I can recognize thyme and the herb with the white flower seems sage to me, small leaves sage.

@JudyEv The thyme is on the right to the rosemary and the parsley on the right to the thyme.

Is that rosemary next to the parsley or is that the thyme?

I don't have much knowledge on herbs. But it's nice to have such a garden.

If the herb garden looked healthy that shows before you did take care of that garden and I am sure you did it too.

The owners would maintain the garden if it needed it. During the off season they may not get too many campers.

Most people maybe buy dried herbs rather than use fresh ones.

It's a good idea. It's a bit like something for nothing and gives a good feeling even if you don't need any herbs at the time.

I'm sure some would take advantage of the herbs, especially if they were staying more than a day or two.

There is a community garden near our 'real' home and that has a herb garden where you are welcome to take whatever herbs you want/need.
