I don't understand why they had to do this

Yesterday there is a news about two oil protesters threw tomato soup at Van Gogh's Sunflower painting. I agree that we have to do more to protect our earth. But it doesn't make a sense to damage an art when you protest something. I guess they might just want to get attention. But I am afraid it will lose the supporters. Luckily the museum said this painting is unharmed. I hope it is true.

It certainly got attention - which is what they were after. However, does it help their cause? Will it change anything? If these young people are sincere, they need to realize that no human can effect the changes they purport to want to see. They need to look to the only one that can, to the one who promised that: 'He has established the earth on its foundations, It will not be moved from its place, forever...' Ps 104:5 'The righteous will possess the earth, and they will live forever on it.”—Psalm 37:29. And soon, he will: '...bring to ruin those ruining the earth' Rev 11:18 This earth is a gift from our Creator - he has not lost interest in it - his intended purpose will not be prevented. But the way to work toward that, is to support the government put in place by our Father to accomplish what no human organizations can do. As it says in the Lord's prayer, 'let your will Kingdom (government) come, let your will take place ....on earth'

What is the significance of Van Gogh's Sunflower painting? Just asking since there are so many paintings on the museum why that painting is the target?

I am not sure, but at least it is one of the most paintings in the world and it will get attention.

It's not the way to go about protesting anything. Some people will do anything for a bit of publicity.

Spoiling a painting is a horrible thing to do. That won’t do anything to help to help their cause. Glad the painting could be cleaned.

I think everybody can enter the museum. They wouldn't show they were the protesters for sure.

Read about the news too. The painting should be well protected. The protesters are trying to draw attention.

@youless According to the gallery, the painting was glazed, and therefore protected.
