Dreams, Nightmares and Getting Stuck

I usually remember my dreams, especially those I consider visitations from my loved ones that have passed. Sometimes there are dreams about my parents and I wake up asking, "What is the message? What are you trying to tell me?" Then there are those crazy dreams where you are running and trying to scream but can't. Something is chasing you. Or you're falling or flying. I used to dream A LOT about me catching my husband in bed with another woman. This was way back in the early days. When my psychiatrist at the time told me that sleep time is when our brain works things out I realized I was dreaming those dreams because I was insecure. My husband has a history that backs up those dreams. Anyway, I stopped having them after that. Then there are the dreams where I get stuck. Last night I dreamed I was on top of a platform doing some competition like on Big Brother or Survivor or whatever. I was sitting there looking at pegs and rings and didn't know what to do. So I lost. But I just kept sitting on this ledge. So I woke myself up and went to the bathroom. But when I do that I'm usually still half asleep so when I got back into bed I went straight back into that dream. I had to wake myself up again, walk around, get back in bed and then couldn't get back to sleep because my legs and shoulders started bothering me. I moved to the couch, which was useless. Then back to bed, folding my weighted blanket in half to create more weight and pulled it up to my neck. I don't know what time I got to sleep but I didn't wake up until 1:30. I had laundry and dishes and church (which is taking clothing donations today so I had to get those ready), and didn't eat my "breakfast" until 3pm. Didn't get my first load of laundry in until 3 and there's an extra load because... I don't know. Those people who need to change their clothes 3 times a day. Anyway, does anyone have those dreams where you get stuck and you can't get out of the dream? Shake yourself awake only to go right back into the dream again? Or am I just crazy?

You got stuck in dreams and couldn't get out? That's the first time I've ever heard anyone say that... besides myself.

@RebeccasFarm Yes, and it's not the first time that's happened to me.

I used to have all sorts of scary dreams, some knowing I was dreaming and couldn’t wake up, some running and trying to get away from something. Then I didn’t remember my dreams for a long time but now I occasionally remember a dream.

The more vivid the dream, the more likely I am to remember it as soon as I wake up. Others I will remember throughout the day. They'll just come to me. In most cases I like my dreams.

@patgalca I think our dreams are our subconscious bringing our problems out in the open where we can solve them. If we can figure out what the dreams telling us.

@RubyHawk That's what the psychiatrist said. I am so glad that him just telling me that helped the dreams from occurring.

It's very rare for me to remember anything about any dreams I have. If something wakes me up from the dream , like my daughter, I MIGHT remember it...

My husband rarely remembers his dreams. I wonder if it's a male thing.

@patgalca I'm not sure. I guess that's possible.

That’s weird. Were you very tired before sleeping that time you had that dream?

I would say I was getting tired. I always read before I go to bed. When my one eye starts to close I know I'm getting tired. If I can keep reading then I know I'm not too tired to do so. I pray when I go to bed and always fall asleep before I finish my prayers.

Mostly I have great dreams and would prefer to stay in them. It's only occasionally that I have unpleasant dreams.

The dream I had last night wasn't really unpleasant. It was actually kind of weird. But it just kind of stopped and left me sitting there which is why I was trying to get out of it.

The only dreams that I can remember are those where I am near my former neighborhood in the suburbs of New Orleans since when I look at videos from You Tube from tourists visiting Panama, it reminds me of the houses in the Metairie. When I wake up and go back to bed, I never return to the same dream again.
