In 2009 an American documentary came out. It analyzed the practices of dolphin hunting in Japan. It showed a secret cove near Taiji, Japan, and the slaughter that took place there. The Taiji dolphin drive hunt is a drive into a secret cove where they are killed or captured.
The documentary was a call to action to halt the massive killing of dolphins (and some species of whales) and to change these practices. I had no idea this was going on until this doc came out. I shared it at that time.
In 2020 approximately 740 dolphins were killed. First dolphin hunters snare animals with nets and drag them to shore. They select the most beautiful ones that will be sold to marine parks and for human encounters to "swim with dolphins". Below is a link to a Peta.org article from 2020.
When does this stop? It stops when people stop paying for these shows and encounters because it is no longer profitable.

It really is. It needs to be stopped.

Japanese like their sushi. But demand for dolphin and whale meat in Japan has decreased in recent years. Maybe because the younger generation prefers the junk foods of US franchises like Mcdonald's? Do we have the high moral ground to criticize how another country hunts its food supply? Consider the millions of chickens and cattle slaughtered for the fast food business. How "humane" are US treatment of these animals?

Glad to hear that there has been a decline. That is true and something to think about.
