Hi there. It's already been 1:06am here in the Philippines of Sunday. I'm currently on my lunchtime with my night work shift for my Saturday shift. Anyway, the purpose of this discussion is to share of what I've did after hearing the voice messages of the groupmates of Sam in one of his group chats. I've called it as cyber bullying. Two of his classmates threw something personal against Sam and me as a parent can't accept that. So, I decided to intervene the group chat and informed the group that I'm his father. Told everything what I've wanted to mention to them specifically the tone of their voices against Sam. It's been a matter protecting my son with their cyber bullying and I'm not sure if there's another bullying when they're in the classroom. One of them even tried to delete the voice messages and I've resent it to the group telling to them that I've already recorded it and save it. So, if you're not going to stop the bullying in the next few days. Expect that I'll report this to the Principal. After saying that, those two keeps on saying their apologies. I've accepted their apology but still told to them, I've already recorded the conversation and for future use, I will not tolerate if they still repeat the cyber bullying.

Way to go. Glad you are on top of this unacceptable behavior. You have to be really careful online. You never really know who you are talking to.

@CarolDM At first, it's okay with me that they will not accept the suggestion of Sam. But the worst is having jokes from them with a non-sense tone as I've validated the voice message.

@kaylachan Yes. Today is Monday already here. Sam already gone to his school. And I have to leave the house later at 1pm to travel to my work at 5pm. And I'm expecting from Sam that he will report to his mother as well as to me in any progress of the bullies.

You did the right thing by protecting your child. Parents should protect their children from bulling. Maybe you should report it to the principle. No telling how many more kids this group are bullying.

@RubyHawk As of the moment, I'll take my word to those classmates who did the bullying because they've promised to me that they'll don't do the bullying again specifically to Sam. And if they don't take their promise, I'll take necessary action.

This is never a good thing and it is good you were able to intervene and maybe even put a stop to it. Bullies only get their way when they can get away with their bullying. Bullies, by nature, are generally wussies. They just act like they aren't and when they get challenged they fold quite easily.

@porwest Yes. According to Sam, they're not practicing anymore outside the school as per suggestion of my son. However, some of the groupmates are with the side of Sam.

It's been a few years now, but I went through that with one of my sons. I couldn't stand it. Talk about kids being mean and vindictive. We were living in a smaller town then, and everyone either knew of everyone's business, or they just made stuff up. I do not miss that.

@luisga814 Sadly, a lot of kids are not taught this. They think it makes them look big and important in front of their peers to bully people. I consider myself a patient person, but I have no patience whatsoever with these bullies.

@MarieCoyle I've gave yesterday to Sam a little money in order not to be tease by his classmates of having no money. But I've instructed Sam not to be a one -day millionaire. Use the money properly.

@MarieCoyle Yes. I agree with that. If you have nothing to say good to your classmates, you should not say anything that makes it bad.

You made the correct move. You should nip it early, so your son won't suffer. You may want to check now and then and see if they're still doing it in school. Kids need to learn that bullying in any form is bad and unacceptable.

That's good that you came to know about it otherwise the kids don't let their parents know what's going on in their life and ultimately get themselves into depression.

@sjvg1976 Yes. I think, I did the right way as there's only few days that we used to talk to our kids due to busy schedule. At least giving time with attending the problem.

As a parent, I understand your concern about children being bullied. However, I would allow them to work out their differences given that it is a group chat and teenagers really don't want us butting into their affairs. This will also make your son look weak in his group-mates eyes. Of course, if things escalate and your son asks for your help then that is a different matter.

@josie_ I do understand the privacy that you're telling or the issue of butting into their affairs. However, I've already heard of it their voice messages. And I don't want to tolerate this kind of bullying from them. Sam is not asking for help with those bullying acts. I'm just there to help.
