One doe - five little kids

I spoke to my sister this evening and one of their Nigerian dwarf goats gave birth a bit earlier and had FIVE doe kids. All are doing well but one is only half the size of the others. No doubt she’ll catch up in a week or two. Goats often have more than one kid but five is a bit unusual. But aren’t they just beautiful? They’ll be bottle-fed and the doe will be milked by hand or machine. The doe has a huge udder and would give plenty of milk for a family. I’ll put a photo of the udder under the first comment so you can see what great little milkers this breed produces. The photos are courtesy of my nephew and I have permission to use them.

Maybe someone needs to explain to the doe what causes kids so she can watch out for that in the future? Yes, they're all very cute and Pretty would want one if I let her see this picture, so I won't... She'd have it sleeping in her bed if it was here.

@JudyEv Oh, she's about ready to start "milking herself"! (That's what dad called it when a cow's udders were so full that milk would squirt out while the cow was walking.)

@DaddyEvil That happens with the goats too. Some have to milked for a few weeks/days before they even kid.

Nigerian Dwarf Udder
He's had a few quads before but I think this is the first set of five. Having been on a farm with dairy cows I'm sure you'll appreciate the lovely shape of this udder. (I need to show it to someone who knows about such things. )

She would have lost a lot of weight getting rid of these five. They are small but she is too.

Wow, this must have been a shock for your nephew. They are cute and I think the littlest one is the one near the front right of the shot, right?

Poor little doe. Is the size of her udder going to cause her discomfort?

He is very adept now at helping when does are having trouble kidding. On his website, he said 'Midwife exhausted but ecstatic.' He actually only had to help get the first one out which was the little one, then he said the others just kept coming. The poor doe would have been pounds lighter after getting rid of all these!

@rebelann I don't think so. She'll be milked twice a day but she'll no doubt be glad to get rid of so much milk each time.

They bottle-feed all the babies. It keeps them tame and the does get milked out properly. He also does a lot of weighing and testing of the milk/butterfat/etc.

The babies bring to mind that when I worked in a nursing home years ago one of the workers brought in a baby pygmy goat, in a dog crate. She worked in assisted living and the residents loved having her different animals visit. The baby goat seemed to enjoy being rocked in a rocking chair by the residents. These look adorable, hard not to love.

They make great pets and interact really well with people. A petting zoo went to my Mum's nursing home once and was a great hit.
