The turtle panchdiya is very sacred.

According to the Hindus the turtle is considered to be a very sacred animal. The presence of the turtle signifies long life and the turtles moves slowly and lives for many years. It is also a form of Lord Vishnu. So the turtle panchdiya is lit with oil and cotton balls on the day of diwali.
