A disappointment

Originally Bob thought he would transfer to a nursing home/rehab October 29. Saturday when I was there we were told he would likely be moved today instead. He got his hopes up. He got himself up, and dressed and sat in a chair all day today. His medical team wants to keep him a day or two more, because his last dose of antibiotics was today. I understand that. I just wish they had not told him it would likely be today. No one told him the change of plans. I got it from calling the nursing home. Why can't people talk to us?

That’s so disappointing that they didn’t let him know as soon as the decision was made! I’m praying for him to be home again soon.

He has been feeling very isolated. He got his move today, though.

Maybe you need to have it put it in his treatment plan,,,PLEASE LET PATIENT AND FAMILY KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON ASAP. Probably won't work, but worth a try.

He is closer, the transfer went through today. I will be able to easily pop in. That keeps them more on their toes.

Hmm, communication dismay! Your poor husband. Did he get his hearing aid?

His new batteries are in and today, after he finally got transferred, I helped him put in new filters so they worked better.

Hi, @koopharper that is true. I am hoping now that he has moved they will treat him better. With him closer I will be there to advocate for him more often. I will try to be nice.

They should not have gotten his hopes up in the first place. I was very disappointed with the lack of communication. I even had to find out by a round about route.

@GardenGerty I have the feeling that too often the patient comes last. I am glad that he will finally be transferred today.

Because the patient isn't important in their plans. I would raise holy heck with the staff and I'd be the first one to know about plan changes or raise holy heck again and again when I was ignored! There was no reason to do that to you or Bob.

I think there were too many fingers in the pie, so to speak. They need a single person handling it all. You are right. Bob said today that he felt as if he was not important.

@GardenGerty You can MAKE someone responsible for letting you know about changes... Go to the head person there and raise holy heck with them and keep repeating you're holding them responsible if something like that happens again. They will assign someone to make sure you're notified.

That's just nasty medical care. The emotions are as vital as the physical issues.

Exactly. I think he was giving up while at the VA hospital. He is transferred now, and I sense a good feeling about his care here on out.

Some people think we should hide the truth from patients to improve their health. People who are terminally ill cannot be told the truth.

Couldn’t you just choke them? I don’t mind bureaucracy, just keep me in the freaking loop! I had a fender bender the last day of September. After I gave my statement to my insurance company, I haven’t heard diddly poo from them. I’ve sent texts, e-mails, and made phone calls but NOTHING. I don’t know if they resolved things with the other party (whom I haven’t heard from, so I’m guessing they did…but you know what they say about “assuming” something) or what! I hope he’s patient, although I can certainly understand if he isn’t.

Yeah that happened to me, but not in a hospital setting. I had a job coach that told me that we could stop by the movie theater about my application I sent in. I got dressed and then was told we weren't going. Then I was told that they were letting me go if I didn't find a job soon. I went over the job coach's head and wrote a letter to my former VR counselor about the situation. The job coach was supposed to have helped with finding a job later on, but she didn't. She was a lousy job coach.
