Oh No!

To begin this post I must tell my readers that I have a real aversion to dentists. I have had two very bad experiences with dentists over the years. I am freaked to even think about going to a dentist now. I haven't been in probably ten to fifteen years. I'm serious. I won't step into a dentist's office. I did go crazy one year(about three or four years ago) and went to a dentist my daughter had seen and liked. I got an estimate and that was enough and all I could handle. I knew it was inevitable. I knew it was just a matter of time. But, yesterday and today I am having a toothache. I have five teeth and some remnants of ones left in my mouth. So now my lower mouth is numb because I had to put some Orajel in my mouth where the ache is. I know! I've heard it all before. I should have been better to my teeth. Taken better care. I come from a lineage that doesn't do the oral thing. My grandmother never brushed her teeth a day in her life. She held her teeth in her mouth with chewing gum. True! And my mother got her dentures when she was about 30 years old. I figure at 71(in four more days) why spend $9,000(last quote from the dentist)to get my teeth done? I will just go with the pain. I am being awfully truthful here. Bad news about my teeth. But, as long as the Orajel holds out, I will.

I hate to go to see the dentist. I was fine until 4 years ago, when the dentist removed my upper wisdom tooth and I got a very bad infection. My whole face was blueish, I was in pain during a week and I had to rush to the hospital because of the infection. From that experience I fear to go to see a dentist.

That sounds very scary. I got some garlic capsules today so hopefully that will keep any infection away.

@celticeagle I do not know what happened exactly, the doctor who took care of me was seriously concerned, he feared that the infection gained the neck and went down.

Oh gosh, that sounds bad. You shouldn't have to live with toothache. There must be somewhere you can go to get help. We have a place called Good Samaritan where people can go who cannot afford a doctor or dentist. They do good work and charge very low prices. They operate on donations. Maybe you can find such a place where you live.

We have Terry Rielly here. I am taking garlic capsules and had no more pain. Also, take a pain reliever at night.

I am the same way. I think next year will be twenty years since I last went to a dentist. I'm pushing forty (will be in July) and I have a couple chipped teeth. No reason to go. I use pain killers when I have a tooth ache, and Advil helps to prevent infection I think. Good luck with your teeth.

Having bad oral health unfortunately can affect other systems in your body. I'm sure we all wish that you would go in and get a checkup. Good luck.

I don't have aversion towards the dentist. Except my wife who had a bad experience with a lady dentist in which her defective tooth was forcibly hammered.

I never liked going to the dentist, but I've spent several thousands of dollars on my teeth (root canals, crowns, braces). And then five years ago (almost 6 now) I go and trip, fall and smash my face on the pavement. That cost me $7000. With any luck, I'll be getting a cleaning next Thursday when a volunteer dental hygienist visits the Centre.

I've gone to dental colleges and had volunteers or students work on my mouth. I would probably rather have one of them than some of the dentists I have experienced.
