Back to the grind stone.

Today is George's first day at work. And, I am enjoying the peace and quiet. I know he's not all that happy, I don't blame him. He's started talking about finding a part-time job he'll enjoy. But, at his age, his work history, he's over qualified for a lot of jobs. And, it won't be that easy getting him hired elsewhere, as it would be me, disabled, and on the other end of the spectrum. But, he likes to talk a lot so I don't see it going anywhere. He'll work as long as he's willing, and then that'll be that.
I have a pile of housework to catch up on later today, too. fun times. At least, I'll be able to get it done before he comes home.

Don't look at the downside, that always seems to bring bad results. Look at it in the respect that he "WILL" get a part time job that he'll like. Also, his new boss might see the benefits of having George as an employee and promote him and make sure that he enjoys the job. I've had that happen right off, so anything is possible.

I am not being a downer. I know it sounds like it. But, I also know my husband. He says things like this to make himself feel better, but he won't really fallow through because he really doesn't want to start over. He basically can do whatever he wants at his current job. And, he knows, if he manages to get a new one, he won't have as much control as he would like. He won't be able to take smoke breaks when he wants. He'll be with people who don't really know him. And, that's why he'll never really follow through in getting a new job.

@BearArtistLady Oh, I completely agree with that. I try to encourage him, and helping him to remember what he's doing this for. That retirement check is a few short weeks away. And he's only working two days a week. So, it's a far cry from the five-seven he was doing two short years ago. I try to be a good wife. And, I have helped him fill out applications. But, he realizes how good he has it, and changes his mind after a while.

@kaylachan Isn't that the way men are supposed to be? The men say us women are constantly changing our minds, it's actually the nature of the beast. I'm sure he is wondering what he will do when he doesn't "HAVE to work.
I'm sure you're an excellent wife, after all you have been married all these years. It's just that you're concerned about his up-coming retirement. When the weeks go by, he'll decide that it is time to hang up the spurs (so to speak) and retire. Especially with working two days a week and the taxes on the wages...

I hope you had a good day. The weather is nice now and I went to the convenience store at about four and enjoyed that breeze blowing and sunshine.

I highly doubt he will actually follow through. He doesn't want to start over, and not be able to take breaks when he wants or dictate his own schedule.

There will be opportunities for him once he actually retires. Lots of jobs available now.

It's not that there aren't jobs available. But, it's finding a job he'll enjoy. Most of the places are hiring around here are in the food service industry. He's not going to leave it only to return to it. And, it's all just talk, anyway. It makes him feel better to say he hates his job, and find something else. Even though he knows he never will.

As you know, I retired last year and I have to say, I am getting a bit antsy. I don't need the money, but finding something I can do part time AND make some money too is something I am considering. If nothing else, I will just work during the winter and take the summers off.

George was ready. I told him not to quit until he could comfortably walk away and no longer feel the need to fix everyone else's problems.

@porwest That's just the kind of guy George was. He wanted to help people. He wanted to be there for them. He had a hard time saying. 'no'.

@kaylachan I never cared about fixing other people's problems. For me, it was always about having enough money in the bank to tell the boss to go pound sad when I was ready to. lol
