Charged twice for same item

I had placed an order on Amazon for Bounty paper towels and Quilted Northern toilet paper. I have an Amazon gift card balance available but I chose to pay with my credit card. Bounty was already shipped and delivered and my credit card was charged. I now see a pending charge for the toilet paper, which I am assuming will be finalized once it is shipped. I logged onto Amazon today to see the status of the toilet paper so I know when the item is expected to arrive. While there I decided to check what my Amazon gift card balance is and noticed that I have a pending transaction on the gift card for the same amount as the toilet paper and it is applied toward that order. Seems I was charge twice; once to my credit card and once to my gift card. I contacted Amazon via chat and they will credit back that amount to my Amazon gift card. And they will investigate what happened so it won't happen again on my future orders. I am glad I decided to check my gift card balance. I wonder why this happened though. This is the first time I've experienced this. Hope it won't happen again.

I hope it doesn't happen again either. Perhaps there was some confusion and the pending charge will drop off?

@kaylachan Have to log in to my amazon account to check. Don't think they will email me that I've been credited back the money.

I hope this was something that you were finally able to resolve. I hate being overcharged, technically, no matter how it happens.

Yeah. They credited back the amount. Actually, I think the initial debit from the gift card disappeared from the gift card activity. The balance was updated of course.

Oh I really hate when that happens.

Me too. Glad I caught that right away. Would have been harder to get that money back had I noticed it a long time after the fact.

It's good that you checked. It's easy for something like this to be missed.

Yep. I would have no idea about it otherwise. Better to spot it right away than later.

That's quite bothersome. I hope it didn't happen with me! I'm glad you caught it.

I am glad I decided to check my gift card balance or I would have never know it happened.

How's the credit issue in Amazon? Did you receive your money back?

Yes. They put that money back into the gift card.

I like how they tell you to keep the item. I used to order flavored water from there and I got a wrong order with a different flavor--one we don't usually get or like. I got a credit and told to keep the water.

That is nice of them to let you keep the wrong item. I wonder why they don’t want it back though.
