I fell on my ass yesterday!

(Borrowed the British version of ass, but apparently that's not allowed! ) No, I wasn't using my cane. I rarely use it in the house because there's almost always something I can reach out and balance myself with. I haven't the faintest idea what I stepped on. Even now, I don't see anything on the floor that would have thrown me off, but it did. I tried desperately to stop the process while trying to avoid falling on anything that would cause damage. I fell into a combination of cat litter, paper bags I'd folded into another bag and a case of cat food. At least my butt didn't go on to the cans or there would have been more than just personal humiliation. The worst part was I couldn't get back up. I have a bad knee - no cushioning material at all within it. I try to avoid being on my knees for that reason unless I'm on my bed. I grabbed a cushion from the chair I fell to the side of and finally got maneuvered to where I could get up on the bad knee. OMG that hurt! But, I succeeded in getting up on my feet and am back on the couch. This is why I hold on with two hands going up and down stairs. My knee hurts a lot today. I put a lidocaine patch on it - half of one. A whole patch wouldn't stay in place. I do NOT want to fall and I especially do NOT want to have to call for help. I couldn't reach my phone anyway and couldn't get to the door to unlock it, but I could have called my daughter if I had to with my phone. I still had to go down to the basement to finish my laundry. But I did it.

Oh no on your washer being downstairs. I am with you on falling. It sounds like you get up way easier than I do. Falling is a huge deal for me. Once I am down I am sunk due to knee pain. I'm glad you were able to right yourself and aren't too hurt.

Thanks! Oh, it's fun. My bedroom and the bathroom are upstairs! Yeah. But, my knee sure hurts today. I was pulling myself along like a sitting infant pulls himself with his feet. But, far slower. LOL

I would love having a toilet on the main floor. I've taken to using a portable urinal for women because I can't hold it as long as I used to. I've had times where I didn't make it. I'll deal with the stairs, the potty is a need I refuse to change clothes for multiple times every day, which did happen until I got the portable device. It sounds gross, but it's real life.

@jerzgirl I fell in love with a 2 story elderly house. Hubby said yes! we needed to not be isolated when we retired so we bought the house and live in it now. He also insisted there must be a bathroom on both floors so we turned a bedroom into a bathroom upstairs. I exercise my painful knees and hips twice a week in a warm water pool. That should strengthen my legs and help me to stay upright.

Good you managed to get up on your own. I did fall once but had help around. I do not want to fall again ever.

I'm very embarrassed that my size is a hindrance for others to help me up, so there was no way I was going to call for help unless it was my daughter.

@jerzgirl It is difficult or well nigh impossible for anyone to get up with weak knees and you did it. A great achievement indeed.

Faling sucks, but we all can fall for no good reason. I could literally trip over nothing. That's likely what happened in your case. One or both of your legs decided to give out because it can and the next thing you know, you're on the ground. I almost fell today, but llucked out.

Tell me about it!! It's not fun, even when it doesn't hurt. But, it could hurt and that's the problem.

@jerzgirl And, you're lucky if all it does is hurt, too.

Getting up is always the goal. It's a success of I do it myself.

Thanks! Me, too. I'm not a fan of pain and gravity seems to be more powerful as I get older!

@jerzgirl Yes that is true. A fell about a month ago on a crosswalk they had just painted. It was raining and the crosswalk was really slippery. Hurt my hip and knee but it is feeling better now.
