The last tweak or the final straw?

I’m getting lots of inspiration from fellow members today The Horse (@TheHorse) was talking about obsessing over the details when restoring a speaker. You can catch up on his discussion, The biggest restorations are NOT the most difficult! / myLot. For some reason it’s not putting up the whole link so I hope it works. Anyway, in his last comment back to me, he mentions a ‘last tweak’ which reminded me of the following. We were putting up a 6’ fence round a chook yard (chicken yard) once and we didn’t have any way to strain the wire so Vince thought he’d attach the tractor to the top wire and gently pull it tight. This worked well until he decided to give it a final tweak – and pulled the post clean out of the ground. I’ll say no more!! The photo is mine of a rooster at Wellington Mills, Western Australia. He wandered out of the bush and made himself at home in the caravan park. Maybe someone dumped him although it isn’t usual to dump poultry. His name was Random.

Vince should have not tried the "final tweak". I often say to my husband that a "perfect job" is not always better than "a normal job finished and working".

@JudyEv I am sure it took more time than the whole original job you did.

I couldn't believe he'd done it. It took a lot to fix it once it happened.

@LadyDuck It did indeed. I think I was so upset I stalked off inside and left him to it.

I have seen so many stories of how that 'final tweak' went totally wrong. I don't believe in final tweaks anymore

At some point, you need to say enough's enough and just leave well alone.

That’s a pretty rooster. That would be odd to dump one most just kill them and eat them if they turn out to be roosters instead of hens. That’s a funny story about Vince. Does he curse when things like that happen. My father and husband would swear up a blue streak.

@JudyEv that’s wonderful he isn’t one to get very angry. My first husband was very calm in situations like that. It was one good thing about him.

@shaggin My Dad was more quick-tempered and I find myself getting really anxious if there are confrontations between people I'm with.

I was so cross I stormed off inside. I'm not sure if he cussed or not. He's not one to get angry. He might swear a bit but then just gets on with it again. Thankfully he doesn't do his block.

@RebeccasFarm He seemed pretty happy at the time. He was the only rooster and had quite a collection of hens.

Once, just about everyone had a few chooks in the backyard. Not anymore.

@CarolDM I think they are banned in many suburbs. Certainly roosters are banned because of their crowing.

Well, sometimes the problems the final solution creates are not worth it.

I am glad I am no more trying to be perfect and trying those last tweaks. The carpenters are here and I see a few things not ok for my 'perfect; eyes but I have just ignored them.

@JudyEv Yes there is. At least we had a bucket on the tractor. Used that to pound the wooden post back in.

Yes sometimes you have to know when is 'good enough' and time to stop!

Exactly. Probably it's the perfectionist personality that has most trouble with knowing when to stop.
