I See Rivians

I have yet to see a Rivian personal vehicle on the road. But I did see a Rivian Amazon delivery van on the road making deliveries the other day, and over the past week or so I have seen at least three car carriers with deliveries of the electric cargo vans on their way to an Amazon fulfillment center somewhere. That is not particularly good news as a Rivian investor. But it does mean deliveries are being made and that these delivery vehicles are being put into service. The real test will be how well they actually perform, and of course whether or not Rivian can deliver on time on the full order of 100,000 vehicles. Either way, as I have interest in the company, this is also an interesting thing to watch. I want to start seeing their trucks and SUVs on the road.

So these are electric cars? We're seeing more and more on our roads too.

They are. The delivery vans seem to be their bread and butter momentarily, IF they succeed. But they also make an SUV and a truck. Both Ford Motor Company and Amazon are major investors in the company, although Ford did recently scale back their initial investment to focus more on their own EVs.

Might help us go green maybe. I am not sure I recall what that company does. But, good if it's actually seeming to make a difference.

@porwest I feel the same, but I can appreciate the attempt and effort. Going green isn't realistic. Because not enough people will get on board, or ideas aren't sustainable. Or the list goes on. We can only do our best with what we have.

@kaylachan I think it is important to always be forward thinking. But we cannot force the issue. Let the consumers decide ultimately.

The whole "green" idea is fraught with multiple problems. I don't fault the companies. But we are not prepared at all for any of this green agenda.

Is the order of 100,000 vehicles all for Amazon, or is that their total order for all sales distribution across the board (commercial and individual)?

@porwest Can you imagine the demand that will be created if these vans are successful for Amazon. Talk about a win for Rivians.

All for Amazon. So far as I am aware Amazon is the only one currently with delivery vans on order. I suspect that if the vans do well, there could be other companies who may be interested in them.

@porwest I spend a lot of money on Amazon, and it's where you can find my books, so you could say I have a vested interest in the company.

If you ever buy anything from Amazon, you will be seeing lots of them soon.

I am beginning to see more and more of them. A good sign considering my investment in the company. I hope they perform well enough to encourage reorders.

I’ve seen a Rivian truck in the parking lot at Chuy’s a few times…means the owner is a regular there, like me.

I have seen Rivians on car carriers, but never on the road, aside from the Amazon ones which I am beginning to see many more of. But for the very first time, on my way back from that miserable Wisconsin trip with the truck problems, I saw one right before I got to Hwy 50 in O'Fallon, Illinois. A Rivian pickup truck. I was happy to see it considering my investment in the company.

Amazon is the only vehicle that I've seen so far that looks like that. I'm very familiar with that Amazon truck as it's here pretty frequently

Their trucks come to my house probably too often too—a new trend for me actually. lol. But so far only the gas powered ones have shown up.

I hope, for your sake, that they meet the goal and also that you will be seeing the vehicles on the road.

I think Rivian, overall, can do well, even over Tesla, since they are still selling the driving experience—Tesla is not doing that. Ford has taken a similar approach, for example, focusing on just EV and foregoing autonomy.
