Classic and Obscure Older Movies

Although this newer movie, "Capernaum" was a good, heart-warming movie, and unique -- a boy taking care of a toddler. I was born in the 80s, but it seems like all the best movies were made before I was born, and nowadays, the good movies are made in other countries. As much as I love the "classics", I really love a great, unique movie. To me, the script and acting is 90% of the movie. I love to recommend and receive them, and talk about movies, which is becoming more and more difficult, even in some film message boards (since "politics" has taken over), so I'll keep it short. But I will recommend you one movie, "Harry and Tonto" - unless you hate animals and old people :) Art Carney beat out Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, Gene Hackman, and Dustin Hoffman to get his Best Actor award for his role in "Harry and Tonto". The following year, Gena Rowlands got robbed for what I think is the greatest performance in film (despite Brando being my favorite) which is also on YouTube - "A Woman Under The Influence", my favorite Cassavetes movie who was the 70s version of Frank Capra -- maybe an American that never existed, but I guess it's I like to dream and get lost in a movie. Even one with barely any script in "Last Day of Summer" (1958, Polish) which is also on YouTube, but no subtitles, but you don't really need them. My kinda movie -- two characters on an island. It's a wonderful feeling to fall in love with a woman on screen, where they're available :) I really need to find a movie before it's too late. I need that soul nutrition, but I'm running out of movies, kinda.

And these days you cannot find anything decent to watch it seems. You have to look in the past for the older ones to find a good one.

Right.. When I was 17, I would blindly pick movies, and within a year, I noticed I preferred the older movies, despite renting newer movies 2:1

@PinkFloydFan It is the same thing over and over with the new ones. Makes you wonder what happened to the directors and producers.

@CarolDM They don't re-make em like they used to! I'm really curious about what happened to the writers. I don't think even the movie buffs such as myself can name a current screen-writer, but I know Robert Towne (Chinatown) and just not sure if he works.... If you want a good movie from this century, I'd recommend you something that is NOT in English. I just saw a good Danish movie. I've seen more than a couple actually. I just saw "The Worst Person In The World" and thought it was pretty good. 7.5/10
