I think I can

Remember that kiddo book The Engine that Could?
That's me today. Almost cold enough to snow. That blankety tire flat again. I didn't think my hubby should go out and mess with it cause he is not his usual self. I fiddled and said some things and finally after trooping back to the house for advice, heard air!!! It appeared that the inflater gizmo was working and the tire was inflated enough to drive on. I needed to go to the grocery store for a few things like juice and milk.
I easily got to the store and back to the house. I then started looking up junk yards in my area. I found a friendly guy to talk to via the phone. He had me go out and look at the tire and see what size it was. He then said those dreaded words: "You have a rare one!" Thanks a heap. He had been so confident. He fiddled with his data base some more and finally said he had a Honda that had the same wheel pattern as my Toyota. It would fit my car. I would be able to pick up the wheel and yes, used tires, next Tuesday. I forked over my debit card numbers. Sure nicer to face a four hundred dollar bill than the bill for a brand new vehicle- and the current one running okay still.
Here's crossing my fingers that I can find that junk yard! Here's crossing my fingers that the wheels really do fit my car and really are in good shape. Anyway, I did all I could and am glad I figured things out.

You needed different wheels or different tires? If you paid $400 for used tires, you just got scammed! If you paid $400 for different wheels and used tires, then okay, that price is acceptable. But you should take your vehicle to a tire shop and ask if there's anything wrong with the wheels you already have and price new tires for it.

@DaddyEvil Another tire shop has told me the same story: the wheels are corroding the tires. The wheels are making it so that even a brand new tire will wear and not keep air in. These wheels are spendy but this is the first good answer that I have gotten from several people.

@sallypup Oh, then your vehicle must be an older than normal model. Yeah, that can happen. Time wears on everything.
I hope the tires and wheels suit you.

I hope the wheels and tires work out for you. $400 is a steep price.

@LindaOhio It is a lot of money but not near as much as buying a whole new car.

@shaggin Those wheels on those tires bettter be in better shape than the ones I have now. The wheels I have now are causing my tires to go flat. I'd rather pay 400 now and keep my old car than buying a new car that will cost me what?? Forty thousand??

Tire issues can be a real headache. Hope you can find the junk yard and the tire/wheel is just what you need.

Good luck with all this. I'm always glad that our cars are very 'common' and it isn't hard to find parts for them.
