Soaking the sun...a strange variety of hibiscus..

Good morning from this side of the world . It's 11:40 AM here. I am done with the sessions at school. I worked from 8:30_11:30. My weekend doesn't start today as I am supposed to come tomorrow to encourage the Pre Primary and Primary students who are putting up an art exhibition from 10:30AM to 1 PM. I can walk in any time to walk around and see their work. It won't be a surprise for me as I have been their art teacher and art therapist.. But definitely would be a proud moment for me when these little ones will showcase their work. Some were really good and would be for sell as products. The money would be used to buy more art supplies for children. Hope they get buyers and people to appreciate and encourage their work I am here sitting in my favourite spot in the school, outside the Montessori block and soaking the sun. I have to help these children later to set up the things for tomorrow. That would be after lunch at 1 PM. And it might take about two hours. So,it will be long working day till 3 PM. I have my lunch of garlic noodles packed with me. This spot has few scattered patches of flowers beautifully maintained by the gardener. Being a garden enthusiast, I often interact with the gardener sharing tips. He even gives me some plants for free when he has excess. He does it for other teachers and staffs too. I kept wondering about this plant from last few days. When enquired about the same, the gardener told that it's some black variety of hibiscus that he got for the first time. Even he was curious to see the blooms. And today I spotted this..a black hibiscus. It's my first time to see it. Not been a big fan of any black bloom, I am not sure whether I would like to add this variety to my garden. When asked by the gardener if I would like to have a cutting, I was not sure. So, just smiled and said that maybe later. It does look interesting but I have a prejudice of black roses or any such flowers with bad omen. I might change my mind later. It's not fully black yet. But the shades get darker and it might be black by evening. Not sure how long the blooms stay on the plant. Most hibiscus would stay for one or two days. Have you ever seen this strange variety of hibiscus? Would you like one? Have a good time in your mylot corner.

It's the first time I saw something like this and it was interesting. I have a picture of the same flower the next day. It was complete black before falling from the plant. This dark colour looked gorgeous. But when it was complete black, it was not so attractive.

That's a very dark flower, most unusual. I'm not sure I'd want one like it either.

@arunima25 I suppose part of it is that such a colour is totally unexpected in a flower.

It looked quite unattractive once it turned complete black. The art exhibit was for sale and open for public viewing. There was a great response and everything was sold out.

I love the color this hibiscus. Looks like velvet. I have not seen this one before. I just wrote about my crimson one a couple of days ago.
All spring and summer, I have a Hibiscus tree that blooms on the deck. Hummingbirds and butterflies enjoy the nectar from the large blooms. In late fall I...

Good to get sunshine especially in Pleasant, Cold or very cold weather ! It is the first time that I am hearing about Black Hibiscus! Interestingly, today is the World Soil Day and there would be some corresponding activities in School. At times I feel there are activities conducted in such a way that it makes everyone burdened and not learn much from the activities. Anyways, perhaps kids can themselves handle a lot of things these days but yes, we always need to mentor them. A busy work week awaits me. I had plans for putting up a lot of new discussions on Mylot but am not finding enough time. Let me see how the things go this week.

Yes, I have seen this strange variety of hibiscus before! I think it's really unique and interesting to look at. I would definitely like to have one if I could. I think it would be a great addition to my garden! I'm sure it would look beautiful with the other plants and flowers. Thanks for sharing your experience with us! Have a great day!

The other day it turned totally black before falling on the ground. It was beautiful to begin with but as it grew darker and darker and almost black, I did not find it attractive at all. It would be a good addition to your garden if you like to keep rare varieties. You might find it there.

@arunima25 I noticed the leaves and those were a surprise for sure. I bought a flower that should have also smelled like chocolate, but it never did.

Black hibiscus is indeed rare just as black roses. Will the sale of what the kids have made be open to public viewing?
