This little guy is Interplanetary Bob. He's gone with me from classroom to classroom for a good number of years. This year he will be joining the missus and me on our trip to California to see our son graduate from Test Pilot School and be awarded his second master's degree. Interplanetary Bob usually hangs out in my classroom at the base of the state flag holder on the wall behind my desk. I told my students I would be taking him with me on the trip and posting photos to our Google Classroom Stream of him at the different places we visit while we're out there. I don't know if Bob's flown since his mission from his home planet, which must be kept secret for interplanetary treaty reasons. It will be my first time flying in several years. I hope everything goes well on the way there and on the way back. I wouldn't want to have to sic Bob on any idiot passengers. My next post will be from sunny (I hope) and warm (I really hope) California.

I hope the three of you enjoy your trip, and that Bob doesn't run into anybody from his home planet and decide to go home.

This is my first trip to CA since 1986, and that was a one-night stopover on my way home from duty in Korea. Prior to that, in 1983, I spent 3 weeks in the desert at Fort Irwin when my company operated as OPFOR against a unit out of Georgia there for training. We flew down from Ft Lewis (now Joint Base Lewis McChord), landed in a dry lake bed, deployed, and spent 20 days on the mission. On the 21st day, we were picked up in the same dry lake bed and flown back to Ft Lewis. Not much site seeing got done.

@DWDavis I imagine not. My first cousin, once removed, was our country's 3rd Green Beret EVER. There were times he couldn't go sightseeing either.

@Chellezhere I'll bet he saw some sites most people should be thankful never to have seen.

I've read so many horror stories about passengers behaving badly on planes lately that I am a bit anxious about that. I told K that I hoped I wouldn't feel it necessary to apply any of my latent army skills on some bozo.

@DWDavis At least you have the reassurance of latent army skills!

It has been a long, rigorous year for him, but included a lot of excitement and interesting challenges.

My daughter lived in Irvine, California for about two years. I loved the climate! Interplanetary Bob will do just fine on this flight:) You and your wife? I hope and pray that you both have a wonderful trip! Congratulations to your son, for earning these high honors
