When You Were A Kid

Things have changed so much, but I was thinking about when I was a kid, they could scare us by saying they were going to call the boogeyman man, or telling us stories about ghosts. How they would come back, and haunt them. I was just wondering if there are any here that was raised or believed in things like that. We were afraid of a lot of things. What about you?

Nobody ever talked like that in our family, if anyone wanted a good scare it was when Mom warned us that she was going to tell Dad. That was fear, real fear.

A maid we had then told me that if I went out, the gypsies would come and kidnap me. I always wanted that to happen because then there were gypsies near my neighborhood and I wanted to wear those awesome dresses they wore.

My parents didn’t try to scare us, but my friends and I liked to tell ghost stories and watch spooky movies.

Yep, that sounds about right. I once read about how kids cope in modern times and one kid told his mom he was afraid there were terrorists under his bed. Modern times, modern things scare kids now,

I didn't know that. So it is still the same. But different. Thanks for telling me.

@popciclecold it is unfortunate but reasonable with all that is happening in the world today that kids would now be afraid of terrorists.

We kids used to tell stories like that to scare each other but I don't think any of us took them to heart.

My family was very religious, so they would ensile the fear of god into me (or try), since I didn't really have a lot of ways to rebel as a kid, I rejected their religion. I still kind of pray from time to time, but I don't attend church or anything like that.

@popciclecold It was supposed to, but it didn't for me. I remember being taken to confession, and not knowing what to say, because I rarely did anything, except argue with my parents from time to time. And, one of the ten commandments, is honor thy father and mother. Well, we also need to be human and disagree, too.

Thankfully, the bogeyman was used to scare us. The threat of Mum and Dad's wrath was enough to make us behave.

We were told the same but by other kids, not our parents. I was afraid of the dark.
