How Can You Break Your Neck In Bed?

Today I got an ad for a special kind of pillow. The material is foam which has the shape of your neck after you've lain on it for some time. When you've read the whole text, you'll ask yourself why you're still alive and even not crippled. On the one hand, it is a fact that a good pillow helps you fall asleep sooner and more easily. Yet on the other hand you wonder why the majority of Italians doesn't suffer from neck pain. The same is true for Uzbeks. When I was in Uzbekistan some years ago with a travel agency, we found pillows in our hotel rooms that were so hard that we guessed there were filled with cement. I put the pillow in a wardrobe and folded my clothes in a way so that I had a kind of pillow which didn't break my neck. I think every pillow is ok when you don't have probs falling asleep.

Companies just love installing that placebo effect in your head until you'll have no choice but to buy their products haha

@maluse The pillow on my bed in Paris last week was little more than an inch thick. I augmented it with folded clothes as you did but it was not very satisfactory so most nights I ended up sleeping on the sofa in the living room.

I have tried those shaped pillows and don't like them at all. Just stick to the normal ones

I have trouble with pillows. Growing up I only had a down pillow. I had the same one from the time I was very little until I left home. It was flat as a pancake, but I loved it. Since I left home, it's only been down pillows until I needed new ones and found the only kind was the alternative down. They don't work. Down was very expensive. Then a couple of years ago I found a pair of affordable down on Amazon and have been doing great since.

You must have a good pillow to get the proper rest and not wake up with a stiff neck. Hope you have a good week.

I think once we are asleep, whether out of fatigue or not, our body positions itself for its comfort without our knowledge. The big issue is...we have to be asleep. Of course, if we were sleeping on a branch of a tree, it would be better not to.

I haven't heard of this info, but I always find the most comfortable pillow when sleeping. Just like in the picture, my shoulders and neck should be comfortable. Thank you for the information.

If used the right way memory foam tends to be real good and actually reduces pain. But, I see both sides of the coin, too.

I sleep on two pillows and they are comfortable. My problem this morning was having sweated during the night then getting that painful kind of pain in the neck from cold air blowing on me during the night and winding up with a stiff neck.

I think a lot of it is down to what you are used to. During some periods of Chinese history people used pillows made of ceramic, stone, bamboo or even bronze!

For me, it's something of a random walk. I sleep well, but sometimes I slightly tweak my back. I must have slept in an awkward position. I use "cheap pillows" (three) but I do buy new ones occasionally.

Why not buy one good (expensive) pillow instead of three cheap ones? Seems more reasonable to me.

In some countries the women have to rest their heads on wooden headrests so that they do not disturb complicated hairstyles while they sleep. These headrests look very uncomfortable.

I have a memory foam pillow & have used one for many years. I found that they help me have a much better sleep than fluffy down pillows.

When buying a pillow, choose the one that will give you comfortable sleep.
