Once in a lifetime.....

...and not for a good reason.
One of the people that we have been doing contracting and some moving work for is trying to move, and is wanting to buy a house "in the country" as he puts it. So on Sunday we filled the truck up with gas and headed to Crestview to look at the list of houses he found that he was interested in.
There were a couple that were iffy, and then there was one that he had us look at that he loved. So he had us drive through the property. It was a beautiful house, on two and a half acres with two garages and water access and it was stunning.
We took some pictures and sent them to him and he said he was going to make an appointment for the following day for a realtor to meet us because he was dead set on it. He fell in love with it, we fell in love with it and was ready to put an offer on it. But he lives in Oregon currently and wanted someone who knew what to look for to walk through it and see if iwas as good of a deal as it looked like in pictures.
So he made an appointment for the next day (yesterday) for us to go look through the house with the realtor he has been working with.
Our appointment was for 1 pm yesterday. We got there about fifteen minutes early and we drove down the dirt road that led to it. When we rounded the bend to the property we saw a EMT and Fire chief truck parked in the parking area of the property. I thought it was weird, but didn't think that what we saw next was what we would see.
As the house came into view we saw that there was nothing but a pile of rubble left. The house had caught on fire.
It was gone, there was nothing left but the bricks in a pile and the pieces of tin from the roof on top of the pile. There was smoke coming up from the now destroyed building.
So that was heartbreaking. We had all fallen in love with the house.
Not how I thought the day would end up, and for sure not something we expected to have to deal with.
So that was our Monday. I sincerly hope yours was better.

@JudyEv He thinks he's found another one closer to us, but its quite a bit more, and a much bigger investment.

That's a real shame. I hope no one was inside or hurt in the fire.

@kaylachan No. the house was empty. And they hadn't done an investigation when we got there. Like i siad it was still on fire. The real estate agent didnt even know till I called and told her.

It was a shock, and I know it didn't really have anything to do with me. Buuut , it was just a shock.

Oh my goodness, that's sad but it is probably a sign that it was not meant to be for the guy who was interested.

Yeah, that's what he said. He thinks hes found one here in town that he likes, its got three hundred and twenty acres.
He's basically my "dad". He's my best friend from middle and high school's dad. Said friend is doing two years in prison for some bad life choices. Before he got arrested he got another girl we went to high school with pregnant. She ended up giving birth three months early and then she went to jail. So "dad" has taken custody of the baby.
The baby is a little more than a month old and has had a ton of surgery. When he gets discharged from the hospital "dad" wants to move down here.
It's a big ol mess. LOL

@thislittlepennyearns that is very sweet of him to get custody of the baby. I hope the baby has no more health problems and has a good life.

@LeaPea2417 He's been doing pretty good since the last surgery, steadily gaining weight. But he still has a long road before he comes home.
