How long will it last?

So, I have had a headache for a few days, with a few moments of not hurting.
In fact, my head hurts so bad that it wakes me up. I go to bed completely exhausted and only sleep as long as I am exhausted, then the pain wakes me up.
Last night, my head was hurting, but I only took my normal medications. I'm getting less help from my meds since I can no longer take one due to my ulcer.
I woke up after about 4 hours of sleep, burning up - no, I don't have a fever, it is actually part of waking up - but my head was worse than when I had gone to bed.
I put something in to throw meds at, but the head still hurt. I took my more powerful medications, and it hurt. I finally took 2 aspirin - in the form of a single BC powder. That was about 9 a.m. and I had been awake since around 4. Now, at 1 p.m., I'm finally feeling the pain backing off a little. I am going to break down and take the powerful med again about 3, since that'll be 6 hours. I am not normally allowed to do this, but the size of the dose isn't going to kill me and I've been taking the medication for over a decade. You can probably guess what that means...
But I hate these migraines. I hear about people who have headaches that kill themselves because of them - I can relate... except my cats need me.
How about you? Do you have some kind of long-term pain issue. Besides the migraines I have fibromyalgia so... I've got a lot of pain problems.

I am sorry El..this is terrible agony you are going through.
Hope that you may feel some better soon.
Yes I had pain for a good long time this summer and ongoing. Seems okay as of a week ago now.
Some kind of unexplained infection.
Had to find home remedies and antibiotics and probiotics.

Yikes! Infections can kill! Sepsis killed my wife and an infection in her former roommate crossed the barrier into the brain. That was almost 13 years ago, 10 years after my wife moved out and 6 years before we got married. I can tell a small part of the headache is tension. Sadly part of what gives me tension is pain.
Stay healthy, Oseie, the world would be a sadder place without you.

@RebeccasFarm I have to take care of myself, especially right now because I just learned my roommate broke her hand yesterday! I think this is the same hand she had previously broken, once in a car accident and once when her mother had a scooter 'accident.' Not that her mother wanted to hurt anyone, she's just not very good with the scooter... she's worse now...

Silly question but have you tried an ice pack? When I get a killer migraine it's about the only thing that helps.

I have, some times they help. I woke up this morning and the head didn't hurt. Now it is just a tiny sinus thing because I'm congested. I am prepared to take an extra dose of pain med because I don't want it to get that bad again, at least for a few days.

@ElicBxn Have you had your head examined lately, to find the cause? I'm talking CT scan, not analysis.

@BarBaraPrz lately? no, but I have had them in the past. Maybe I'll talk to the pain doc (nurse practitioner) when I see her in January. And I'll have to talk to them about my February visit since I'll be at my sister's the first of the month of February. I can probably postpone my appointment until after I get home, I should have the medicine to last that long.

I am sorry to hear you have been in pain. I was born without the brain's main communications center (a large band of nerve fibers known as the corpus callosum), so I have nerve and pain problems, too.
I have Migraine Disease and have had it for 55 years. My 24/7/365 migraines are silent - which means I do not feel pain (but I feel the movement of my ocular migraines in my choroid [vascular layer of the eye]). So long as I do not take Topamax or Topiramate, I don't even feel headaches, but the moment I take those pills, I feel every type of headache known to man, and sometimes I feel pain from migraines that are some place other than my eyes.
I have had migraines that have lasted at least 168 hours (one week). Those were migraines that either began while I was sleeping, or while I was away from my Imitrex.
While living in Florida, a place where doctors told me the best prescription they could give me was to get out and stay out (because my sensitivities, allergies and asthma, and sinusitis were so bad), I developed cluster headaches and vertigo on top of it all.
Do you know what triggered this migraine?

It could've been the weather, but I don't normally have the weather to make me feel bad. It could've been stress, while I frequently don't let stress get to me. This year, however, everything gets to me. I have had a lot of stuff going on this year that have made this year extra stressful. I suspect the darn migraine has been lurking, I honestly have trouble thinking of a time there hasn't been any pain at all... well, maybe up in Cherokee.

I have suffered with migraines for years. I read somewhere that Ginger will help with the pain. I, personally, would mix it in with a warm (or hot) drink and with the ulcers, would add milk or cream to help the absorption of the ginger. I've been without my migraine medication, so IF I have pain meds, I will take an additional half to full pill to kill the pain. It's like I have said for a vehicle to run me over, so the pain goes away. I also have used ice packs on the back of my neck, for some reason it seems to help.
Gee, don't you live near me? You are like me, what keeps me going is that the cats need me.
My heart is with you on your pain and migraines. I'm going to try a new pain medication and hopefully it will work. IF it does, I'll let you know. I ordered it earlier this week so it should come in any time now.

Do let me know Toni. I am supposed to not take too much dairy since it is hard to digest so your stomach makes more acid. However, I really haven't taken too much dairy out of my life, I am watching my food intake in the hope of loosing weight. I know you are in California, I am in Texas, but we are alike in trying to stay alive for the kitty babies. However, I have asked my roommate, since she's 19.5 years younger than I am, to take care of them. I guess I need to figure out how to go about leaving the house to her - what with the insane prices on houses in Austin.

@BearArtistLady I sent you an email because the setting on the computer were for my wife and I can't get to the send button on p.m.s because of it. I could probably figure out how to change it, but I'm afraid that I'll mess something up... I've been know to do it.

@ElicBxn What with the insane prices here in California, houses that used to sell for $20,000 are now selling for $850,000...
I've been eating a LOT of tums type anti acids and prilosec to try to control my ulcers and acid. Of course, I temper it with chocolate...the dark chocolate.
Please don't give up, you're needed! Especially by me. I'm the go to person for the neighborhood (apartment complex) and I get to help them with their problems, paperwork, need from the stores...it does tend to get a person down, deep. If it weren't for Petey and Jonesy, I'd have given up long ago. People don't realize that when you hurt you need to have people come to you to help you out.
I'll p.m. you in a couple of minutes. Take care and I'm sending you tons of love and hugs.

Oh, yeah... I've had migraines bad enough to make me throw up, and if I never have one of those again it'll be too soon... The kicker about the ulcer is that it hasn't hurt - at all! I've had pre-ulcers that hurt like the dickens, but this thing...
