The renowned Zen master, Dogon Wetzeslki, was a deaf Zen master. He listened well though, with the ears of his heart, always open to all. The teacher/student relationship was hardly affected, as he always so warmly embraced his student with his words, which seemed to have always spoken, and answered, exactly what was in the student's mind too. He would say of this, that within his heart returns the truth of his student, so when he listened to his heart, he heard the truth of his student too, and so he was just giving their own truth back again to them. Everything returns to the heart, love, truth, life. Everything leaves the heart, but we should ensure its return, by loving life, ourselves, and our neighbours too. Life is about mining our heart for love, not for mining the dirt of our minds. "Deafness is not in my ears, because of the hearingness of my heart. I listen with my heart," he would say. "A lot of people listen, but hear nothing. We must hear with our hearts, as well as our minds." His sense of love and empathy are enhanced as he is not distracted by outward noise. He can go straight to the heart of the matter and connect with his student. Our world is sadly drowned in a cacophony of noise assaulting our ears relentlessly that conveys nothing but disregard! Much ado about nothing - to remember the Bard.

Yes, when we talk, we should talk usefully, not just create fluff, that has to be swept away.

@Shiva49 Yes, getting the gist of it, without going into the fineprint suits me too.

@innertalks Most of it - In Through One Ear and Out the Other". For me, for political news, the headlines are more than enough!
