Popocatepetl volcano became active some years ago and ever after it throws fumes and water vapor into the atmosphere. In the present, it´s considered an active volcano that could explode. In the last 24 hours, it has made 132 exhalations and 5 minor explosions; some water vapor, volcanic gases, and reduced amounts of ash. During the same period, 52 minutes of low-amplitude tremors have been recorded
It´s been predicted that the volcano´s explosions will continue from low to intermediate scale; light to moderate ash rains in nearby towns and the possibility of low-range pyroclastic and mud flows are a possibility.
I took this photo this morning. At that moment, the volcano was not showing signs of activity. I live at around 82 km (50 miles) from the volcano. Due to the present volcano´s activity, people are not allowed on in a radius of 12 km (7.5 miles). Evacuation plans will be put into practice if the activity becomes

Knowing that a nearby volcano could erupt at any time is unsettling, in my opinion. I too reside in a region with a large number of active volcanoes. They can always be a hazard, but they can also provide rich ground since after each explosion, the area seems to be suitable for farming.

They can make fertile soil. In that way, they´re beneficial. This volcano has remain active throwing fumes, water vapor and ashes but it has not erupted explosible yet, which is a relief

@quantum2020 For as long it does not erupt violently then I think that is fine.

@rsa101 I think so too. It´s not completely active. It throws fumes constantly but it has not explored yet. And I hope it remains like that for a long time

I saw the Popo from the distance the two times I visited Puebla. I was worried for Puebla when I heard about it last week as I do know that the Popocatepetl is a very active volcano. As soon as its activity is mild, it is acceptable. I know that they monitor it permanently. Take care. ¡Y Felíz Año Nuevo!

@quantum2020 The Popo is considered one of the most active volcanoes in the Americas. My eldest daughter is now living very near the Villarrica volcano which is now in Red Alert.

Yes, if the volcano-Popocatepetl, were to become explosive, It would affect Puebla, Morelos, and CDMX. From what I have heard, it is in a stage that is not considered dangerous, which is a relief

Yes, it has made 132 exhalations and 5 minor explosions; it has exhaled water vapor, volcanic gases, and ash. Also, 52 minutes of low-amplitude tremors have been felt

It´s been semi active just thrwing fumes, water vapor and ash into the atmosphere. It´s been like that since about ten years ago. Nevertheless; It´s been monitoreed by seismologists and given an alert code
